Winamp will not play certan file types HELP PLZ!

First of all let me say thank you for reading and let me apologize i do not understand much of the tecnical stuffs, i know how to use a computer not how they work so bare with me.
I have an HP vista and the latest version of winamp i only have the shoutcast DSP plugin and thats it for extras, not long agio i had a virus issue and my comp was reformatted and my files placed back on. Sence that time "MPEG Video Format" & "AVI Video Format" files no longer play in winamp but they used to and they work in windows meida player just fine. Is there a plugin or something i need to make them work? Or does winamp no longer support these file types? Everyone i ask just says "well convert them to this or that" ummm dunno how i would need step by step instructions. So can anyone help me? TYVM for you're time.

Celena - if you right click in the upper left corner, then choose "Options", then "Preferences", you can scroll down to "File Types" and choose MPG, MPEG, and AVI. That will associate them with Winamp and you should be good to go.

i get sound on them now but no video, ty for youre help least its an improvement lol

-A dxdiag log
-Info about the codecs in the AVI files
-What's your Windows OS?
-Is it Winamp 5.572? Pro or Free version?

At a guess, start by installing FFDShow
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

well lets see my os is windows vista home premeum i only have one plugin the shoutcast DSP plugin its the free version of winamp as for A dxdiag log & Info about the codecs in the AVI files well i dont know how to get that info for you but if someone will tell me how i will gladly, TYvM

TYVM DJ Egg i visited the link and now the fles work fine i cannot thank you enoughf so sorry if i have been any trouble sence i dont understand much of the tecnical stuff but many many thanks issue solved
