I love thrift stores :)

Wow, aren't I lucky.

Today started off like another ordinary saturday: wake up at noon, walk around in my drawers all day, surf the net, eat, sleep. However, today was going to be different, because my dad decided to take me and my brother on one of his business meetings. Boring.

My dad is works for a morgage company and was going to meet with some potential clients in Black Canyon City, possibly a bigger hick-town than here in Cave Creek. Turns out we arrived at our destination bit early (an hour and a half to be precise), therefore we decided to check out what the town had to offer.

After walking through practically every tourist shop in the damn place, I was so bored that I was ready to lay down and cry. Anyhow, one of the last stores we went into was this thrift store, a place where people drop off the crap they don't want and expect other people to sell it for them. Well after walking two steps inside I realize I've seen the entire store already. As I was taking my four-second glance, a set of headphones hiding in a corner caught my eye. Being the headphone freak I am (and also having nothing better to do), I decided to get a closer look at these headphones.

The slightly closer glance intrigued me a bit, so I got even closer and noticed that they looked way kind of awkward sitting on the shelf, like they didn't belong there. Therefore I took them off the shelf, and that's where I nearly pissed myself there: I read the logo on the headband and couldn't believe what I was seeing; I was actually holding a pair of Sennheisers in my hand! When I looked at the price tag, not a single thought of doubt crossed my mind. I purchased them immedately, knowing that I was getting an insanely good deal for a high-quality pair of headphones worth at least $50 that appeared to be in great condition. Hell, I figured it was a steal, and even if they didn't work, I wasn't losing anything.

So I trot out of the store, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world; anxious to try 'em out, I immediately rip my Sony earbudy out of my CD player, pop these suckers in, and...

HOLY SHIT!

I was expecting the worst from these, however to my suprise, these babies work perfectly, with clear highs, and pumping lows, like miniture subwoofers were just implanted into my head. I swear I almost had an orgasm right there.

So I go home, extremely happy knowing that I just scored myself a great pair of headphones (and they sounded even better in Winamp with some tweaking). Anyhow, I Google them to find out more about them, and this is what I found:

http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite...transid=004914
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
http://www.vitalsounds.com/ordering500A.shtml

Frequency Response: 18 - 30,000 Hz
Nominal Impedence: 150 Ohm
Total Harmonic Distortion: < 0.1%
Ear Coupling: Supra-aural, semi-open aire
Ear Cushions: Velour

...I scored a $130 pair of headphones, and I only paid $5.50 for them.

I'm going to thrift stores a lot more often now.

*Glee!*

I frequent thrift shops pretty often, but I frequent junk yards a LOT more often than that. Same premise, getting insane deals on stuff. Just yesterday I went to a yard and pulled about $400 worth of parts including a like-new locking roof rack (with keys!) a rear wind deflector off an Isuzu Trooper, and a column shifter assembly from a 1991 LTD Crown Victoria, cost me $30 total.

Thrift stores can hold great bargains. Crazy bargains that you have to look for. I recommend going on a Monday or Tuesday as most people tend to drop off stuff on the weekends. And if you have a local Goodwill, check that out. At least here in Washington, Monday's are 99 cent days and I've found work pants for the hubby that way.

If you're feeling even more adventurous, you should check out estate sales (usually after someone has died, the family holds a mega garage sale). You'll find steals there. My mom has once bought a $250 gold/jade bracelet for $75, and just lately I got a $120 JVC vcr for only $15

Those are actually circum-aural. "Supra-aural" means they fit on your ears, "circum-aural" means the fit around your ears.

Circum-aural is much more comfortable to wear, at the expense of the headphones being a larger size. I have Grado SR-60s that are supra-aural, and I can't stand the way they fit, but my circum-aural Sennheiser HD590s are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.

Congrats on the super deal you found!

I go to alot of garage sales in the summer. But as for thirft stores, i'm one of those people who has to have every piece of clothing I wear bought new.

It's the same reason I buy new shoes every few months.

Electronics I don't mind having second hand though. But I have never really seen any electronics in thrift stores where I live.

Pawn shops are the shit for finding good stuff, but it helps when you know the people that run it. Otherwise they try to rip you off..

During the summmer? If you live in Texas can't there be garage sales any weekend.

The reason they are only in the summer here is because it's either to cold or snowing to have one.

Heh, I used to live in West Texas, where there's nothing to block that artic wind coming from Canada. Heck, I now live in Washington state where the winters are milder compared to Texas.

Back on topic...

Today, I took my dad around to a few garage sales in his area as he's trying to find an electric weed eater. He didn't find one, but, he did get a brand new hedge trimmer and tree-limb saw for $90. Not too shabby considering both would have run him closer to $200.

He also found a small 12 inch oscillating fan stand for $3 at another garage sale. My mom would have been proud of him (she's the bargain queen).

-6 degrees celsius (20F) is like a very warm winter day here. Though I still didn't think it got that cold in Texas. How often is the weather at that temperature?

I found an awesome Coca-Cola t-shirt in a thrift store a couple months ago. It's like new, and it only cost me two bucks.
