- upload/manage archive/portfolio system
- message system
- users can post articles/interviews that they have done up
- users can comment on peoples work

Don't you think it's a little premature to "promote" your site when your index.php displays all these errors for everyone to see on that page? Site visitors probably don't want to be greeted by this list of errors on the page and it isn't too professional IMHO...

I think it might better to work on repairing all those errors before pimping the site. Don't you agree?

You should get a faster server, and you should consider lowering the quality of the header picture cause it took me quite many seconds before the picture was 100% down.

thanks nunzio, just fixed that second ago, forgot to change the link for those files.

pulse - when the server and .com was free, i wouldn't complain about how fast it is. and the quality on the images is already fairly low, don't want it looking like crap esp. when im entering it into a competition.

i live on the opposite side of the world to the server [server is in USA, im in australia] and it loads fairly quick for me [got a .003 page load time not long ago, and took around a few seconds to load all the images]. its running on 2 100mbs lines [or so im told], so it should b pretty quick.

Nice looking site.

Loaded in a fraction of a second for me, images and all. (On a 6 megabit connection in the eastern US.)

I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash.

Well, yes for layout, if you use it for data it is okay. There is a big twilightzone for what is, and what is not though, but intentionally place items like headerimage and menus into tables would be wrong.

But it's a nice looking site

On the other hand, these reccomandations come from the organisation which have almost the dullest pages in the world, so following ALL of their reccomandations, you end up with pages looking like this one: http://www.w3.org.

And have you ever tried to find info at w3c? It ain't very easy

thanks guys

pulse - i know what u mean, the only thing i use w3c for is to check if my pages are pretty much valid. i tried looking for some css help on there once, and ended up on some spanish web development page that i could both not read and understand what it was about.

I found

code:

<!--
.style7 { font-size: 11px;
}
-->
</style>

In the middle of a table, after a table cell. I don't think style is allowed anywhere but in the header, except by inline style attribute.

Also http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...ents.com/home/

It doesn't validate very good. Try to get some control with your markup, and editing it will be much easier.

It's like 100 errors on the main page...

You can try to use HTML 4.01 Loose instead, see how many errors you get then. Loose Document Type Definition allowes pretty much everything, and besides, no point running a Document Type Definition when you're not following the rules at all.

did u check those errors? most of them are session errors made by php, the other ones are just images that don't have alternate names, so no big dealie.

You should escape URLs before you allow PHP to write it into the document. Alternate text isn't that big of a deal.

PHP Code:
global $HTTP_SERVER_VARS;
$get_url $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_HOST'].HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REQUEST_URI'];

$decoded urldecode($get_url);
$encoded urlencode ($decoded);

But I must admit the feeling of having everthing properly done, is a good feeling. Maybe you add alternate text to images as well, if you manage to escape URLs too?

the alt is easy, just gotta add alt="blah" to my images to get rid of that. just the effort to do it is something id rather not do during the week. will get done tho.

Well, adding an alt="blah" to each image would not be "doing it properly" now would it? You know what the alt attribute is for right?

You should update the header picture. I am on 512 brodband. The header stills takes a few seconds longer than it should to load!

251.17 kB for a header pic!
