I think I need a new thread to post stuff in.
I guess I haven't posted in a while yet again, and instead of abusing the poor, innocent threads made by other people, I think I'll just put my random stuff here.
So here goes. Today, I tried writing some (off)beat detection of my own. Nothing sophisticated, but it sort of works. Might need some tuning, though. |

Been experimenting with... stuff. Mostly color-based motion stuff.
Meh, whenever I experiment with milkdrop, I realize that: a) I suck at math. b) I suck at coding. c) I suck at abstract thinking. d) I suck at math.

I'm surprised by how much easier this seems to be when I'm drunk.

I'll have to refine this one a lot (I'm thinking of shifter's subliminal message custom wave here), but for the time being, have a beta version...

Slowly getting there, but I'm stopping here for the time being because I feel somewhat dizzy...
edit: also, do the swirls line up for everyone? The ang is acting kinda iffy where it wraps... |

Very nice!
Unfortunately I only get 12fps on Hypnotron. I am the purple heathen. |

Yeah, it appears that the spiral effect is quite taxing, especially with the added eyecandy.
And now to something completely different: |

60 fps with hypnotron for me, <3 my 4870
nice preset too, I haven't seen the word wave code in a while it reminds of me the old school avs that came with winamp before milkdrop
Murphey's fighting Occam, and I'm in the stands. |

The wordwave is awesome. The code uses so many variables that I dont even begin to understand it, save for how to change the words it spews forth.
Here's a little update to the Hypnotron, plus an annotated version of shifter's waveform for easy import into presets. |

It's interesting, I have more trouble with the wordwave and similar heavy cpu calculation effects than I do with very heavy pixel shader effects. I have no trouble with the wordwave disabled - 50+fps. When the wordwave comes back in it drops down to around 12.
CPU is a limit for me in milkdrop I do believe. Eh, I'm only running an oc'd athlon64 with 1gb of RAM, might have something to do with it. I am the purple heathen. |

that reminds a lot of Eo.S+Phat's fractical dancer.respect man, that's great! I mean keep up the good work, and soon you will see where your pandimensional spaceships will guide you. ![]() Augen auf und durch ![]() goody that's a heavy difference. Martin told of that before. ![]() And nah, there was no real skill involved in the creation of the preset, it's just luck and educated guessing... Also, check out what happens when you play with the parameters: |

Oooh, a tutorial. I love tutorials. It's always nice to have a bigger toolbox.
![]() Well, I tried to see if I could get a better rad, but in the end I just ended up with a rad value with a shifted center. Kinda cute, though. |

The movement could be a wee bit more dynamic in this one, but I love the fractal effect in this one.

Threadomancy! Rise from, your grave, o forgotten one.
Well, I've been toying with random effects, and the effects are kinda... random. In a Milkdrop 1.04 way. |

Somehow I'm immensely satisfied by how this warp effect turned out. I'm not even sure why, because it isn't all that impressive.

I'm still alive!
Meh. Haven't really been active since spring last year (my mind and my interests have this stupid tendency to wander and shift every few months), but I thought I might as well drop off the random stuff I've played around with when something (like random chance, heavy sleep deprivation, alcohol or all of them together) drove me to play around with Milkdrop again. 90 presets - some of them just fixes to old ones, some of them just sketches/work in progress, some broken, and some that turned out surprisingly nice. |

Well, I still remember when I first discovered milkdrop and those old-skool presets were all we had. Back then, even those seemed magical to me because I couldn't wrap my head around the code. Abstract thinking isn't really my forté, I think.
And now with pixel shaders, I feel completely left in the dust - although I at least managed to reach a level that would have been fine back then. ![]() another old-skool PS1.0 preset: |

Threadomancy!
It turns out that although I really suck at programming, every now and then I still like to fiddle around with milkdrop... like, every other month or so. Sometimes I just want to waste a whole evening or two trying to figure out how to have the damn visualization paint a triangle - other people would turn to crosswords or sudoku, I guess. Anyways, here's the current state of my presets, including a few new ones.
