Winamp lags Photoshop. Why?

Hi,

I have the latest Winamp.
When I play music (either from Shoutcast or local mp3s) and use Photoshop CS2 at the same time, winamp lags Photoshop. For instance, when I use a brush or earaser, the mouse lags a bit and I have to use the rbush very slow to make sure it doesn't trail or create unwanted straight lines when i am doing a curve...

If I shut down winamp, the lag in Photoshop goes away.

If I use Windows Media player for instance, it doesn't do the lag in PS.

Worth mentioning, the lag exists with a fresh install of Winamp. I am now using SQR crossfader, but when I deactivate it the lag remains.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you use classic or modern skins? Classic skins will likely cause less problems than modern ones, at least.

sounds like you have some malware on your computer, you might want to monitor your processor and resource usage

I've had the same problem. It tends to be a memory issue on my computer. So I try not to run too many programs in the background and use a memory optimizer before starting photoshop.

Thanks for the tips.
I know my hardware quite well and it is top shape (AMD 3500+, 2GB ram, win xp sp2, etc.)
I use modern skins, the default one.
Priority for winamp is set to normal.
I use Winamp 5.111

Winamp 5.x has always done that for me in Photoshop... I have no idea why. Weird thing is, when I play the same mp3 songs in Windows Media Player, I don' thave that lag in Photoshop. But I prefer Winamp so much... :-(

I just don't know what to do anymore to get rid of that lag.

Just for experiment's sake, try it with classic skins. they use way less power.
http://www.winamp.com/skins/details.php?id=143266 Try this one if you like the modern skin's look.

LuigiHann, THANK YOU!
The experiment is conclusive. The lag is GONE.

Damn, what's coded in thos modern skins?? :-)

Thanks for the link. I like that skin and it works very well in Classic Skins. I'll stick to that from now on.

Cheers!
