The 11 mistakes of Microsoft's Xbox 360

Agree, dissagree you tell me.

Clicky

#1. Overheating CPU or GPU; cannot comment on this personally... for a 360 I have not
#2. No MsnMusic; may of helped MS usurp some of Itunes sales.. but I care not for I use neither
#3. No HDMI support; strange omission for a "HD console"
#4. Small Harddrive; considering what you get for the $399 a 20GBHD is forgivable
#5. Online Security; says its default settings are wanting
#6. No Browser; I think it would be superfluous and would make the console more vulnerable.
#7. No WMA-HD nor HD-DVD playback; may disappoint thoughts looking to step into the future of video playback
#8. No Divx or Xvid Play back; few will notice fewer will care
#9. No system wide video calibration; refer to the poor individuals who are trying to play Kong on a SD TV
#10. Poor DVD playback quality; much like my PS2 it’s a feature I wouldn’t use
#11. No Pressure sensitive Buttons, significant omission for sim racing fans

Most of these points I find moot though I do agree with points 3,7, and especially 11.

item 11 is the only thing that has anything to do with gaming.

the fact that they removed pressure sensitive buttons shows how little they care about the gaming...they are just using this as a way to get a ms media center into every house.

.........?.

Yes, but thats rather apropreate for the 360 since its aimed to be a "Media Center" rather than just a games console.

And if you look at it like that, well I doubt that it will be half as popular as they think, it will sell well for a few months before the reputation spreads. Then its sales will probably drop, or MS will spend a lot of money on FUD and advertising.

They did a fair bit of ads, but not much. The waiting list to get one is four to five months long...Doesn't sound like it's worth it, although I hate racing games and don't care about pressure sensitive buttons.

metal gear solid uses pressure sensitive buttons, though that's a PS2 game I don't even know if they make it for xbox (360 or otherwise) but the point is pressure sensitive buttons are important/useful for more than just racing games.

its some just the same, even the head of Team Ninja ,Tomonobu Itagaki, discussed that he had to withhold gameplay elements in his upcoming 360 titles Dead or Alive 4 and DOA: Beach Volyball due to this feature's absents.

"Itagaki states that because the buttons on the Xbox 360 controller are not analogue, the gameplay will have to be adjusted accordingly."

source:

http://teamninja.********/do/feature?cId=3144134

Its an unfortunate omission, but time will inevitably show the degree of this omissions significance though resulting gameplay adjustments and stifled innovation.

I've still not read a case of the GPU/CPU overheating, didn't most people decide that it was the PSU unit?

Here is the biggest mistake of them all....

*** YES YOU CAN BURN THIS ISO AND PLAY IT IN YOUR XBOX-360 ***
Microsoft left us with this blanket statement:
"Xbox 360 retail kiosks have started arriving at retailers.
Due to the nature of the distribution process, not all kiosks
are hitting simultaneously, but are continuing to pop up in
retailers across the country in the coming weeks.
The kiosks are designed for a retail environment and feature
game samples, game trailers and product information."
Team Pi leaves you with this Pillow statement:
"It seems Microsoft was in such a hurry to get this stuff out
that they forgot to set the media protection on this disc.
This leaves hackers with the posibility to hack around with
this disc that load from a normal DVDR5 backup! - Team Pi
also notes that the all datafiles on this disc isn't signed in
any way, and will allow for extensive modification for producing
exploits to further our efford to hack this box!"
Playable (hackable) games on this disc:
Call of Duty 2, Hexic, Kameo, King Kong.
Also includes lots of game and accessory demos in video format.
Nothing ripped, just foreign videos were downsampled to fit
onto a normal DVDR5!
ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿

YES you can run this! Burn the iso, put it into your xbox and
be very amazed... Next, think of the posibilities of hacking
this little demo disc that we might start running code on
the retail xbox 360's ! smile.gif
So the second task is done. We hope this encourages all hackers,
coders and crackers out there to take up the challenge.
Enjoy!

Nothing like screwing up others' game experience. Ah. Except for the fact that Bungie actually blanket boots the top five Halo 2 players online, on account that odds are a quadrillion to one that their not hackers.

Well, if you've ever looked at the leaderboards, you know that the first 100 or so are almost assuredly cheaters. The levels top out around 35-44 for 99% of players (no matter HOW dedicated), so a level 50 is, really, almost statistically impossible if you're not cheating.

There should be something about the lack of killer app titles. Especially when Kameo and PS0 were in development for how long?

They could have done a better job marketing it to gamers and not just strictly keeping it as a new way to get all kinds of media. I mean having to wait 4-5 months.. is it really that worth it? I loved the trailer for the new MGS game on the PS3. Rumors say it's going to be less than $300 too.
