Monochrome Classics Contest Thread

Welcome to my official contest thread for the Monochrome Contest.
Deadline: Skins must be emailed to winamp.luigihann@gmail.com by October 16, 2005.
Rules:
Your skin must be entirely monochromatic. Traditionally, this word means "Black and white," but the definition can be expanded to mean "uses only one color." Definition of monochrome
I will try to be lenient with this, but I will tell you if you seem to have missed the point. The best way to tell you've done it right is that every area on the skin should have the same "hue." If you have any questions, post them in this thread, or PM me. Only finished entries should be sent to winamp.luigihann@gmail.com
How to win: I'm going to look at all the entries, and assign them scores out of 10.0. I may or may not invite other judges to participate (don't ask me, I'll ask you, if I want you to judge). No judges can win, so I cannot win the contese, regardless of my sweet, sweet entry.
Anyway, the scoring criteria will be based primarily on how cleverly your skin uses black&white/monochrome graphics, so be as creative as possible. Also, as I'm judging, things like clever details, fun animations, and easter eggs are highly encouraged.
How not to win: The following are not allowed, and will get your skin disqualified:
Using multiple colors
Not completing, at the very least, the main 3 windows (Main EQ and Playlist). (A skin with a completed Media Library, Video Window, and windowshade modes will have a better chance of winning than one without, and cursors and a MikroAmp skin fall under "clever details.")
Innapropriate material like pornography or gross stuff
Components ripped from skins by other authors (using your own previous skins, however, is fine)

That's it, I think, for official rules. Again, if you have any questions, comments, or skin-in-progress-pics post them in this thread.
For reemphasis, here's my pic with examples of acceptable sorts of Monochrome color schemes.

that duran duran skin in the "what is allowed" attachment looks bitchin. It'd be a shame if it wasn't able to "be a contenda"

Maybe I'll have a group of judges, and just not let myself vote on mine We'll see. The judging isn't for a while yet, anyway.
Edit: And thanks for the complement. Check out the original video (by A-ha, not Duran Duran ) here.

Well, if you ever happen to see one of these on your travels ....

...and it contains a folder called 'Hoop_T' with 4 psd's in it, then be sure to let me know, 'cos that's where my skin currently resides and I'm buggered if I know where it is now......

The idea hit me this morning. optical illusions! I think i remember seeing a skin on these forums that had some a while back, however, that's all i remember, so the skin will still be original.

Whirling Illusion was released before K_rock joined the forums, so it's unlikely he would remember it

I think it was mindfunk, however that doesn't have the one part i was thinking of that made me remember it. This is totally a shot in the dark, but it might have been by jjpotter. Oh well, the skin i'm working on, doesn't really look like either one of those, it's straight, and I hate transparency.

preview: volume animation.

this is the volume animation i came up with. The black and white rectangles are the same size and always start at the same x value in every frame. They look like they're stepping, however.

Mindfunk is by jjpotter

That volume optical illusion is quite good

Mine's coming along too. I just won't be able to work on it for a few days as I have to get ready to leave for college on thursday. I should be able to get started again once I get there and get settled though.

Uh oh. . . I just realized that I will no longer have a windows computer when I get there. xmms works well for the main windows (they programmed the bugs in to not break old skins) but I'll have to see what I can do for the vid, ML, etc.

You should be able to crank about 9 entries out by October, shouldn't you Luigi?

I haven't started mine yet. Actually, I probably won't start it until my mid-semester break in late September. :^/

It's still early, so I'll see how we're doing at the end of September, I might extend the deadline if enough people need it.
If you were wondering how mine are doing,I finished one, and started another one, because I'm psychotic like that.
If you happen to see somebody else doing a skin similar to yours, don't let that discourage you, just make sure yours goes in a slightly different direction. This contest is about seeing the interesting variations skinners can come up with under the color limitations.

I didn't expect myself to actually work on this skin much, but I'm starting to really like it's ambiance. It's sometone that I'd been trying to fabricate for a while, but never been able to. Hooray for black and white photographs.

Mine's pretty much done, just have to cut up the skeleton into bitmaps and maybe adjust the brightness a bit. My original version (the one i posted here has been adjusted a bit already), it was impossible to read on any screen but mine

Alright, I've gotten together a little preview of my skin.
Nothing yet but the main 3 windows, no windowshades either. I started this way back when TemplateAmp was the template of choice, as you may be able to tell. I'm glad something came up that inspired me to finish it

http://www1.1001skins.com/skin_details.html?id=3475 I swear, that's the last one I'm entering in this contest. Now, I'm thinking of going with a poll to judge instead of judging myself, but I can't help but think that system is inherently flawed. I'll come up with something, we'll see.
