Sad news - Widdykats

Evening GD Forum dwellers, long time no post.

Sadly I come with bad news for you all, it would seem our long time forum dweller and self styled 'Forum Slut' Widdykats passed away a few weeks ago now.

I have very few details so can't give you much more info than that, Widdy was a very private person as you probably know.

I'll stick this thread to the top of GD for a while, use this thread to post any Widdy memories you may have, stories you may wish to share or just crazy cat pictures in general

Today I learned that she tried to contact me through Twitter in December 2012, but got my username wrong and I never saw it. The closest we ever got was talking to her on the phone from our hotel room in Newark. We would've loved to have met her in person – she was only an hour's drive away – but that wasn't her style.

Rest in peace, Ro. You definitely did it your way.

that is indeed very sad news to read just out of bed.

I once named a cat Widdy . When the cat got kittens and i send her the pictures she was a proud as proud could be.
each year we got a christmas card and we send one back untill she moved and we lost her adress.
The few private details she shared gave me the impression that she was indeed a very private person.
What i did know is that she got out of bed each day at 5 AM to feed the stray cats living in her neighbourhood.

Rosemarie, you will be missed ...

and Hugh , the site also won't except messages from Europe, so if any forum member from the states would be so kind as to write something there on behalf of us ( the regular forum dwellers)

I kind of half hoped to wake up this morning, check this thread out and see a 'what's this crap!!!' reply from Widdy and that I'd got it totally mixed up and wrong and she'd been taking a break from the internet all along, alas not, life eh.

I'll echo what others have said, private in the extreme and yet just giving enough away to let folk in, there is so much we do know and so much we'll never know, can't knock her for leaving folks guessing huh.

Personally I shall miss the near constant nags at me to 'adopt/kidnap' each and every random cat I come across in life and give a home to it (even if it already had a home!) , because 'you should always have a kitteh in your life', the random and often sage advice that was given to me, including why I should probably try dating guys once in a while to 'mix things up a bit' and just the general 'don't give a fuck' attitude.

We last spoke a few months back and it seems fitting to close this post with the last message Widdy left me, the sentiments echo right back at you girl...

"Love ya, you big lug!"

Right so I was stressing about recovering this account mainly so I could reply to this, because what a damn shame. I'm really sorry to hear of her passing. She's been a mainstay of this place for a very long time, and I was hoping that on my 'check-in' I'd be able to say hello. Seems I was too late.

When I get a cat next, it'll be called Widdy!

Oh man. Thank you for posting this thread to let people know. I remember Widdykats already being a member when I first joined these forums, and even though I haven't really been here for years it was nice to pop in once in a while and see some of the old regulars, including Widdy, still showing up in the threads. Now it's one less.

Sad news. I salute the rest of you glorious bastards who are still posting here to this day.

Just happened to stumble in here after being gone for a few years. Was surprised and happy to see so many familiar names after all this time. So sad to hear this news. My prayers go out to her family and friends, both here and in real life. So many days she brightened my life all those years ago, thank you kind lady.

Sorry to hear that Widdykats has passed. She was always very nice to me. I remember when she first joined, helping her with the little kittykat avatar she used back then. She was so appreciative that someone would do that for her.

As a friend of Rosemarie--AKA "Widdykats"--for more than 60 years, I just happened to notice this discussion group on a link from her obituary and was touched by the tributes and sadness expressed at her death. I also thought you might like to see the attached photo of Rosemarie, even though it's quite old--dates from the early 70s.
