Marcos pointed you to a side unnoficial Winamp project explaining the view of that particular developer on the matter. It happens that it's the most complete picture of the landscape you'll get (in a single place).
Otherwise.. What's "officially" said is the 2-lines text on Winamp.com and what's on the News thread here (not much more, look for anything DjEgg said) or the official 5.8 thread if you prefer. EDIT: clarification. |

It's confusing because I've read the company behind Winamp itself (not wacup) have said something on the lines as Winamp is not an ongoing project yet stuff also suggesting a newer version e.g. stable version as the current is Beta.
I really wish radioamy would decide what they are doing |

They did, it was in an article after 5.8 beta was official released (really only released because the previous copy was leaked). Essentially they are going to slap the winamp name on some hackjob of a program and call it winamp 6 or whatever.

And leave it? or work on it more? Are they just going to fix the beta bugs and then bring a new version and thats it. What I mean is some people seem to think it will be worked on as an ongoing thing and some think they will just give up

I honestly don't think they are even going to fix the beta bugs, they are just going to replace it with something else
