Get SETI Driver and use it to enable running on multiple processors - the p4 3.2's Hyperthreading technology treats the processor as though it were two seperate processors, so you can actually do two units at one time. Should be able to get 15WUs a day from it.
Not really. Seti treats both logical processors as one physical processor. While it may seem to Window's Task Manager that one process of Seti is using 50% and another instance is using 50%, it's really using all of the CPU and doing the same work as it would do with one work unit at a time. I've tried it already with my P4 3.0C and get pretty much the same results with and without running two instances.

without utilizing both processors on mine, my system would be running at 50% system resources used and I would finish 1 WU every 3.5 hours. With SETI driver running two processes with processor affinity set, my system runs at 100% system resources and finishes 2 WUs every 3.5 hours.

I am not just running multiple instances of seti - I am running one on both processors because normal SETI does not treat it as one processor - it only uses 50% of the system resources running the command line client by itself.

Well, I got 1 completed in 3 hours 30 minutes and 17.5 seconds. But I have an issue. After it completes I get an error saying "Could not open file outfile.sah" something like that. It still sent the unit, but another wu won't began until I hit ok which closes SETI and I have to re open it. Anyone have this issue?

You'll be getting better than 5hrs per WU, I get about 4-5 on a P4 2ghz with 512mb ram.

Of course, I'm on and off the computer, usually I'll get 6 WUs done per day.

Oh, and I'm around 1640.

I'm in, but it doesn't seem like it's at last priority... Sometimes takes some CPU when I'm installing things and such.

Well, yeah. Its supposed to work around your computer's priority tasks, so its very flexible at what rate and percentage of your CPU its taking to process WU's.

and click the join button. (It's down atm)

it depends what you want it for. Win2k will run pretty well on those boxes.

That will "run better"? I'm not sure there's a version of linux that will run worse!

Personally, I'd go gentoo, for that über-feeling, but really, it's up to you. Debian is another of my favs.

is there any difference?

maybe I will set up two running windows and two running linux and see which set pumps out more results.

now as for what version of linux I will be using...
