GUI Olympics WINAMP results.

2nd Week , 1st Winamp category results.

http://www.guiolympics.com/news_comm...asp?NewsID=128

Most Creative WA Skins
1. Enkera
2. Machina
3. Copter

Congratulations to the winners but I have to say my own thoughts.

=========================================================

There was more creative skins that could win ALL of those winners IMHO, I won't say about our team submitions (Metaskins) cause I don't expect WinCustomize.com and their judges to criticise my own works since I'm the only one to criticise myself since I'm old enough to see what each one deserves (and I don't mean gold medals that win any Tv-tuners and WA pro....hahahah who needs these anyway?)

Now you'll ask me: "So VAG, why did you participate on this International competition?"

Here is the answer, since first of all I'm Greek, and my ancient "fathers" invented Olympics, my gens said to me (go participate cause you and Anemovatis are the only 2 Greek WA skinners so far, and this will make you feel proud for many reasons)
Another reason is that we open over Metaskins after GUIO and was the perfect timing to gain some popularity (think smart).

BUT sorry to repeat this again, all of these 3 winners could be different with other judges, sometimes I believe that they DO COUNT the comments on each skin submition and they don't really test the skins to see "HOW CREATIVE" really are/was as about this category results.....

As Anemovatis asked on the post regarding thoughts of users before those results , he said "I would like to see for what reason each skin of the winners won on each category they participate"
I would also like to see that sometime......no matter if this comes after GUIO is done

Enough said for 1/4 of the competition overall results.

PS: Creativity means for me the perfect match of GFX and CODE from 1,2 or more persons that their result makes them FIRST of all feel proud and complete as about each skin they created. Doesn't matter the shape or the color of the skin, but all that makes it a skin, even the "Current Skin Info" page tab in WA preferences......

Now your thoughts would be appreciated friends

Well, you have some thoughts thats right - 2/3 of my thoughts say that you are completely right when you want to see why they won (congrats btw.!).
The other 1/3 tell me that you are kind of angry that your skin got none of the medal position in that honorable category - and you have reason for that, your metaskins are really cool and creative in the way you described it! Look forward to get your medals somewhere else
Btw.: Are there really just 2 greek Winamp skinner??? Why?

neoflox hehehe you misunderstood that 1/3 I think, the only 2 reasons I participated in GUIO are described above my friend
You know why you have that idea? cause you believe -as others aswell- that I expect from GUIO to give me a medal to feel better than now, and that the reputation I need as creator depends on GUIO results, well let me tell you this I participate to gain publicity NOT as person but as creative team, and GUIO came on the right time for us.

Even if we will win the rest 3 categories I'll not accept any medals (at least for my 3 skins that participate there, Anemovatis with his 2 may also do the same) we prefer those medals to be cash and send them to Iraqi kids or to Palestinian kids who have bad things happening there than to get tv-tuners, WA Pro, etc. they offer to winners.....

Olympics IS AN IDEAL, now if WinCustomize transformed this to a "job" I'm not the one to judge this
For example, here in Greece at the time Real Olympics start till the last day, WILL BE WORLD PEACE as agreed from every country, and this was a Greek idea, we had as nation, like was happening many centuries ago.....

Now as about your last question, well in WA Modern Skinning we're just me and Anemovatis , I wish I knew why we're only 2 my friend..... we would like even more to be involved but seems that Greeks are kinda stuck in the past as about Interface design in general.

PS: As about expecting medals with at least my own creations on GUIO, only GrayZ and WooHoo-FER I believe can get one but I really don't care for the medals, and as I told above, I don't wanna talk about my creations, there was OTHER skins (non-Metaskins) that could won those 1-2-3 in ranking (we don't tell names, cause we're not judges hahahaha)

Huh X-caponius is one of the best skinners ever.. and he's from Greece if I remember well. Not very active lately but so talented and inspiring I had to mention him.

Thats a strange and highly inaccurate definition of creativity. I have been watching the guiolympics results and remain unimpressed by the judges but i never do agree with the results of anything like this. Though you have to admit 'enkera' isnt bad, i remain unimpressed by copter.

Kriptoner, vag means freeform skinners. But I'm sure there are more frome greece, just not here active in the forums.

Anyway, I did won a silver medal, and i'm very proud of it. And I do think we deserved it, not more not less. The reason about all the fuss is that everyone's definition of creativity is different. And yeah everyone wonders why copter did win and not skin x or y.

Anyway vag, don't compare it to the REAL olympics. This one is commercialised and you could better compare it with the euro songfestival... (hehe the irony of it all )

And why you didnt won vag, I can explain, but i'm not going to do it right here because it will look to some somekind of flamebait. PM me if you really want to know..

Couldn't agree more..
If I knew their definition of creativity would be "wild shapes" then we would most definitely not have submitted D-Reliction to that category.
I wish they would have told us about that before, given some explaination what each category means etc..
I'm disapointed, I really am.
I didn't expect D-R to win that category, Enkera and Machina both deserve the places they got, but I did expect D-R to be one of the top 3 skins, otherwise we wouldn't have submitted it to that category, obviously.

What hurts even more is that D-R wasn't even in 4th or 5th place. This means that the judges somehow didn't think D-R was creative, and let me tell you, IT IS. So we didn't make it shaped like a bug or a helicopter, so what? Is that creativity? We spent months and months making sure every angle was covered, making it a pretty damn solid skin, with all the features you could want and quality gfx/code, and then people don't say that's creative.... That hurts.

If "most creative" means most creative SHAPE, then say so damnit!

Stupid contest.

ps. sorry for the flaming

i have to agree with plague on this..more explanation of categories was needed BEFORE the contest started...i have seen some definitions of them now after skins have started to be judged, not good enough GUIO. luckily my skins are in the 2 categories that are simple enough to know what they mean.

ok, to everyone who is upset that there skin didnt rank high.. dont get this wrong.. just because your skin didnt rank high, doesnt mean it was bad. it just means others were seen as better by the individuals who judged the skins.
[opinion]
its just a stupid compotiontion judged by people who dont know their arseholes from their earholes anyway
[/opinion]

heheh Plague, Bizzeh

I think to at least of entered is good enough, yes there could of been more descriptive categories and if there was more understanding then i'm sure skinners would of put their skins in another category, such is life but its not the end of the world (well not until 4th july anyways )

more importantly its the taking part that counts in events like the GUIO, its good publicity for the skinners to get their skins out to the other skinners in the community & other users.
at least once the guio has finished and we can submit our skins to other skinning sites, so overall no big loss imo.

at the end of the day tho there has to be winners and non winners, dont think there are any losers as all of the skins offer something to some1 and I'm pleased I was able to share my creation with others, this is the essence of skinning - to share your creations, as indeed you cant please everyone at the same time, the best you can hope for is some1 liking any aspect of your creation

I will keep skinning for my own pleasure and the hope that some1 out there likes it & uses it from time to time, this is the ideal i think we all aspire to

wow made it thru that lot with a limited amount of smilies

Sorry VAG, i really didn't meant to bother you! You are right in all aspects. I was a bit too tired when i wrote my post this night...
Waht I think they meant by 'creative' isn't that they have a very free form but simple the idea of doing a skin on a topic (insects, helicopters, whatever) that haven't been done before! I agree with you, plague, D-Reliction is in my personal Top-5-WinampSkins ever, it is just perfect - but the guio dudes did obviously not look on the skins grade of perfection - and to be honest, D-R looks like the port of some other breedart classic skin to modern - it is quite rectangular and the layout and features are moderate but maximum usefull...
I have not that much experience in skinning, but I believe to see, what thought might have stood behind their decisions.
Btw. Did everyone ever thought on creating some skinning contest 'private' ie. not commercial that matches the skinners opinions?

:o/ that sounds a bit hard to pull off. you'd need to have prizes/incentives to attract and motivate participants. GUIO was able to get a decent amount because of those incentives in my opinion, and also because they had some pretty good publicity (metafilter, winamp, deviantart, wincustomize, neowin, etc..). it's a great idea though.

Guys afterall participation matters in EVERY kind of competitions, but I start to see with another viewpoint (suspicious) about judjing over there.....
Just take a look at the winners in ALL categories and then on the top right part of your screen

Naamloos: You're an insider? If so, I would like a PM eplaining me your viewpoint/facts , would be interesting my friend.

Anyway, we will all laugh in the next category results and so on.....

PS: Suspicious I'm also watching so many teams not having 1 submition in any category.....

I just wish as Greek that all those answers I have in those virtual GUI Olympics not to have in the real ones.
As about Greek FREEFORM skinners if they are registered after me, would be people who asked me from where to start skinning and I sent them in here.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, keep'em coming, cause we have democracy here (and don't flame in any case, I don't want this post to get locked or deleted )

I really want to read some explanation next to each winner skin.

But until this will happen. The whole contest is suspicious. I hate shadows.
