Converter
This media-player could do about anything you'd want.
You can micromanage many details. It can rip, it can burn, but it doesn't have a converter! (Unless I'm overlooking it, please tell me.) I've already been looking for it like beginning this decade or even the previous one, when I wasn't as familiar with Winamp. So isn't it time to add the feature? There would probably be limitations to what formats could be used anyways. Like the free version doesn't allow to rip into MP3, or something like that. That pretty much counts out for example converting anything into MP3. Which was my whole goal, I need something within reach to convert FLAC into MP3, for transferring and such. I don't need ANOTHER little frickin' program seriously. So a converter is on my Winamp-wishlist. ![]() - Damage Inc. |

Right on the tracks(s)/item(s) > select Send to: > select Format Converter
Is that what you want? And, you are right the free version of Winamp doesn't allow converting to MP3 |

Ah there, it's kinda tucked away there since it never even occurred to me to check out "Send To".
I was already wondering. ![]() But all I have to then is, maybe put it in the same way as 'Rip & Burn' is? Like in that list of the Media Library. Unless I can already move it myself there somehow, which would be completely great. lol And also maybe expand the converter with more details? Since it looks quite simple at a glance. Not that we would need much more, but things like choosing the bitrate would be nice. Maybe some other common details, because I've seen and had very complex converters, only barely used them before. So not that I want Winamp to have this huge complex converter though. But, just from what I've seen, adding the most necessary functions would help. - Damage Inc. |

![]() btw... In addition to the Format Converter, you also have the option of using the "legacy" Disk Writer for conversion as well... Ctrl+P for Winamp preferences > Plug-ins > Output > Nullsoft Disk Writer Double-click or click the "Configure" button for all configuration options. BUT... if you change your output to Disk Writer, you'd better not forget to change it back to Nullsoft DirectSound, else you'll continue to convert files instead of playing music/media. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. I particularly find it irritating that it stops transcoding and makes me click a dialog box every time a track won't convert. this is unacceptable with large batch jobs as it requires somebody to babysit it constantly. it would be better to skip the track and list it as "Skipped - Incompatible format/other lame reason" and continue on with the job. it would also allow you to run the job in the background and keep playing music/messing with the library/etc. without that annoying little dialog box on the screen. homes32 |
