hTtP no more

All:

Due to the rampant abuse of the pop-up hTtP option, yp will no longer be accepting directory requests for stations utilizing the pop-up feature. There have been too many abuses of the system attempting to direct traffic to pop-up sites and spyware.

Also, the default banned message has changed to better reflect the nature of violations.

Also in addition, you must have the bandwidth neccessary to broadcast at or near your advertised bitrate, if that fails or if your server is full when you attempt to add yourself to the directory, you will be denied. To ensure listing add 205.188.234.41, 42, 73, and 74 to your reserve lists.

Don't You Hate When Someone Mucks It Up For Everyone. I Loved The Popup Url. It Helped People See What Was Playing And Had Links To The Playlist And Request Page. I Abused Nothing But Then Again I Paid Nothing So There You Go. I Guess I'll Have To Fix That Now

Sorry to see us being de-listed. The hTtP was the only way we could even try to recover the cost of SHOUTcast bandwidth.

Can you guys give us some hope for the future, some great new future in SHOUTcast pro or AAC streaming coming online soon?

Sadly there are too many f***ing morons who will abuse anything one comes up with. I don't blame anyone one bit for having to resort to this. It's not the decision that sucks, it's the people who brought it to this. The only hope we have is the morons who caused this will move on to something different now.

What I don't understand is how any of the pop-ups or spyware or crap makes any difference to Nullsoft?.

If people are stupid enough to browse anywhere without taking proper security precautions, a firewall, cookie and virus scanning, spyware nukers, pop-up blockers and to stay away from sites that are likely to contain stuff like that, they deserved to get creamed.

Is Nullsoft going to ban sex, because some people got something, and someone else doesn't use a condom?.

Why does Nullsoft feel it has to be a cop?. No search engine does that. No one else I know of does either.

If your computer isn't protected these days, you're gonna bite it anyway. The people who do this spamming suck, but they don't suck anymore than the people at large on the web.

Even major companies toss out adware and spyware. Try to get rid of a good case of Lycos Sidesearch or PurityScan.

This decision tosses the baby out with the bath water.

When you click on a link that says free porn, Nullsoft is going to save you. Who's gonna save you when you use equal stupidity and play in the freeway?.

Ok, this could be an issue. I run four server and over 500 slots and have the bandwidth to do it - but right now for instance there are like three available slots. Am I going to get delisted now because I'm bringing in alot of listeners (if so that is indeed bogus) or will putting the YP ip's in reserve prevent this?

So there's actually one that says, "F**k off porn spammer. You're not welcome here!" ?? If not you need it, lol.

The fact is that the listing needs to remain in control of nullsoft so that it can be as accurate and show off the technology as well as possible. It's a major turn off for anyone including people who do take preventative action to be bombarded with stupid hijack attempts. I for one see this as a responsible decision for the time being.

Megarock, if you have those ip's I listed above in your reserve list there will be no problem. Also if you are already listed the yp will not continually check your server, it only needs a slot when you add yourself to the yp.

I had one more idea. How about some way to create trusted hosts?. I am not hiding under a rock or a screen name in what I do. You come to my web, you find me.

I remember the MP3 URL exploit in earlier versions of Winamp. I used it with an Old Time Radio site to launch program information into the mini-browser. That was cool, pictures of them, broadcast dates, but that went away because some jerk figured out how to blow peoples computers up with it.

Maybe something like "PayPal verified" for Winamp, so that we could use the features of the system without worrying that our work was going to be scrapped because some idiot figured out how to turn a feature into a security risk.

Just a suggestion.

It would pop up a page in the minibrowser. Seen it work but never took the time to put it on my site. Guess I won't waste the time now, lol.

That hurts. Just because I max out a small 40 slot clustered server, means they dont want me?

Ive seen 5 slot servers, but they still deserve to be listed since they are doing the community a favour.

This is a HUGE waste... were getting double penitration here! We already have a 10 min delay on the YP so if we max out when the YP touches and a person drops out a min after that, we are not listed for another 9 mins!?!

Thanks..... so much
