Winamp 5.53 clean install, default language, classic skin.
Windows Vista English (but bug is not OS dependent).
Bug is in Nullsoft MIDI player 3.16 [in_midi.dll]

Issue: Parsing/loading of two particular .hmi midi files. One fails, second messes up instrument loop and indicates 167 minutes of playback.

Possible cause: non-compliant format or non-compliant loading code. The midi files are 'production quality' and play fine in the application they were produced for. Also some other few players/converters can successfully handle these files.

Steps to reproduce: download attached .rar file, extract, load midi files into winamp, observe indicated playback length, try to play.

Awaiting confirmation / acknowledgement from developers.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Yup, we already have your sample files from a previous posting.
Problem confirmed. Hopefully it will be looked into.... Thanks.

Flac

Play a Flac file then right click it in the Playlist (while it's playing) and View File Info. Hit Ok to make the song restart...

Why does it restart upon hitting Ok? if it is intended, then could you show a warning box or something with a "do not show this again" check box?

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
I can't reproduce this problem with Winamp 5.53 and Nullsoft FLAC Decoder 2.05. All the FLAC files I've tested continue playing after clicking OK, and do not restart.

Winamp 5.53 clean install, default language, modern skin.
Windows Vista Spanish (but bug is not OS dependent).
Bug is in MP4 AAC/aacPlus Encoder v1.28 [enc_aacplus.dll]

Issue: output files have not readable header info by Nokia mobile phone players.

Possible cause: non-compliant header format. The m4a files are played properly on the phone, but the title and artist info can't be found.

Steps to reproduce: extract any song to m4a format, load on Nokia phone, try to observe title and artist info on phone player, wich can't find those and shows filename instead.

I hope this explanation is enough for understanding. If you require it, I can upload a file converted with the "Nokia PC Suite" with a correct header readable by the phone.

Awaiting confirmation / acknowledgement from developers.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Hmm... what's the exact Nokia model? Yeah, we'll probably need two sample files - before and after. If you don't want to post the link(s) here, send me a PM, either with the links or to request an email address where you can send them to.

The "Jump to file" window used to be closed by pressing ALT+S.
The S is still marked (on the Close button), but ALT+S now opens the skin options.
Doesn't seem as intended... quite anoying...

playlist generator bug

playlist generator failed to initialize

Winamp 5.53 - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
default English US
using Bento skin
Windows XP Home
Dell Dimension 3000 Intel Celeron 2.40GHz 1.0GB RAM
Integrated Video (Intel 865 GV)
Integrated Sound, SoundMax Digital Audio drivers 5.12
DirectX version 9.0c
Nullsoft Playlist Generator v1.1 [ml_plg.dll]

Had this problem on an older version, and I followed the advice to delete the three cddbplm files in the \plugins\Gracenote folder. I can still generate the error:

1. Delete the three cddbplm files if they exist
2. Connect to the network, and have files in your library on remote network locations that need a login. Connect to these locations in Windows explorer and log in.
3. Re-scan music library
4. Test playlist generator; it should work.
5. Restart computer.
6. Start Winamp without first logging into remote network locations.
7. Attempt to generate a playlist. Winamp pops up a neverending series of "playlist generator failed to initialize" dialogs.
8. Ctrl-Alt-Delete to close Winamp.
9. Log in to remote network location
10. Start Winamp and attempt to generate a playlist. Same error occurs.

Looking forward to a final fix!

Thanks,

Matt

Found a small glitch in in_wave.dll.

Playing back a WAV file that is encoded in A-Law or µ-Law format at a sample rate of 8000 Hz (e.g. for use as music-on-hold in an ISDN PBX), the bitrate indicator indicates 128 kbps instead of 64 kbps, although the file actually is 64 kbps (of course, as this is the bitrate of ISDN speech channel).

I think this is because the 8-bit nonlinearly-quantized sample formats (as A-Law [EURO-ISDN] and µ-Law [USA] are) are rendered internally to 16-bit samples by in_wave.dll and then passed to Winamp, thus doubling the overall bitrate.

This is a small issue, but if you often have to deal with those telephone speech files (which have been at 64 kbps for the last 40 years or so), this indicator "128 kbps" can be rather irritating...

I have attached a sample file that fits into the 128 KB EEPROM of my PBX. Rather boring music but somehow better than the standard "Bitte warten Sie..." (german for "Please wait...") ^^ and it's not quite easy to fit some sophisticated musical phrase into 16 seconds!

Best regards,
kzuse

Problem - Auto Tag causes Winamp to crash.
Winamp 5.53 and 5.531
No 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Modern
OS: Vista SP1

Once you attempt to apply auto-tag to songs the program crashes. Happened in 5.53 so I upgraded to 5.531 (clean install). Did the same thing. This happens with both MP3 and M4A files.

EventViewer Details:
Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.5.3.1938, time stamp 0x47f283f8, faulting module nde.dll, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x47f28128, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00009170, process id 0xeec, application start time 0x01c89d86a9a8918d.

I keep getting some odd and quite random crashes involving my iPod. Seems to happen sometimes when I 'remove selected' from the transfer queue, but it's quite random. I have a 5.5G iPod. I can't be very specific but it's happened a few times now. It crashed Dr. Watson too so I can't get much info. I'll update this if I can find out anything else.

AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.3.1938 ModName: pmp_ipod.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000f758

EDIT: I think I now have a bigger problem. After syncing tracks and selecting to send them to my iPod they obviously appear in the transfer queue and start transferring.

But then if I pause the transfer, then select ALL the tracks in the list, including the ones that say 'done' and click remove selected (without clicking clear finished to clear the list of 'done') it clears the list. But the tracks that had finished already now seem to be corrupted on the iPod. They can't be removed or played and it seems I have to format my iPod now to get them off.

This happened to me once before in the past, but I put it down to a problem with the age of my iPod and just formatted it. I have just made it happen twice, so it's definetly a problem.

Winamp still crashes with MTP devices and WMP 11

Summary: Winamp 5.531 (and lower iterations) crashes upon loading an MTP portable device if Windows Media Player 11 is installed.

Winamp 5.531 (April 1 2008) - clean install, NO 3rd-party plugins
Skin: Default Bento
Windows OS: XP Pro, SP2
System specs: Various (reproducible on many machines)
Video Card: Various
Sound Card: Various
DirectX version: 9.0c
Plugin: Official Nullsoft Plays For Sure Plugin (v0.7)

This has been a problem since 5.52, if not earlier.

To Reproduce:
On a machine with both Winamp and Windows Media Player (OR Zune software, which is basically WMP11) installed, plug in an MTP (plays for sure) portable device. You may do this with Winamp running or closed.

Winamp will show in the "Portables" section, "Loading XXX (where XXX is whatever MTP device you're using)." As soon as it's apparently done loading, Winamp crashes without a message.

This is a very annoying bug as it is impossible to use Winamp (best music manager!) to manage music for an MTP device.

Documented in other threads:
Official 5.52 Bug Thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....25#post2292925)
Other Bug Thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=285961)
Tech Support Thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=284027)
Other Tech Support Thread (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=284027)

There is a workaround which involves uninstalling WMP11-related software, but this is unacceptable for those who need WMP11 (includes Zune users)

Album art download seems to have problems with albums that have special characters.
Album: Supertramp - Crisis? What crisis?

Trying to "download art" on the artwork tab in "File info", but it says 0 covers found. If I change the album name (wrongly) to "Crisis_ What crisis_" it finds the right cover. So I guess the question marks mess up the search?

WinAmp Pro 5.5 with ml_iPod 3.10 + dev.patches (download it)

First: sorry, english is not my language.
I' ve downloaded WinAmp 5.531,full install, no 3rd-party plugins, and I'm using Big Bento skin.
When I use the italian (yes, I' m Italian) language pack, the submenu "multimedia library" in the menu "preferences" changes but not only in language, the available options about tracking items in "history" section are no more displayed and so I can't set them as I desire.
I got Win XP home edition sp3, everything is up-to-date, everything else is working propetly. I understand this is a really little problem but I hope someone will find the time to fix it.
In the meanwhile, I' ll use the default english language. BYE!!!

I' ve just noticed that even using the english version and having confirmed the option "wait 50 percent of playback before tracking items", tracks are marked as played as they start. Funny... But this makes the generator unuseable!!!

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Reproduced. The ml_history.lng file in the Italian WLZ is out-of-date.

in_wm crashes: Access violation reading location 0x00000000

in_wm crashes: Access violation reading location 0x00000000

When playing a WMA file, when attaching a debugger the following message is logged continuously:

First-chance exception at 0x086d8aa3 in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.

When I try to move forward or backward inside a WMA file, and a DSP plugin is loaded which does not return soon enough, Winamp crashes. The debugger shows the following:

(...)
First-chance exception at 0x086d8aa3 in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.
First-chance exception at 0x086d8aa3 in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.
First-chance exception at 0x086d8aa3 in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.
First-chance exception at 0x086d8aa3 in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000.
First-chance exception at 0x135062da in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.
Unhandled exception at 0x135062da in winamp.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.

Call stack:
in_wm.dll!135062da()
ntdll.dll!7c910732()
in_wm.dll!135063e4()
kernel32.dll!7c80b683()
ntdll.dll!7c910732()

To reproduce this, it suffices to have a DSP plugin which performs a Sleep(100) in it's modify_samples function, and move forward and backward in a WMA file.

Note: This has been reported to me by a user of a DSP plugin that I wrote, and I've been able to reproduce it immediatly. The first-change access violations are reported by the debugger also when no DSP plugin is loaded. So it occurs on multiple systems, with multiple different people.

My own system: P4, 2.4 GHz, single core
Other user: 2.4 GHz Quad core system.

Dr.Grano:

this should fix the history issue, so you can edit the tracking options with Italy language file too.

But the new options are English only, 'cause i don't speak Italian, heh

http://stashbox.org/115197/Winamp-it-it.wlz

I've also fixed the missing option in gen_hotkeys, removed the old broken ReplayGain options from prefs -> Playback, fixed the options for the album art downloader

[Edit]I've checked my fixes in, so this should be part of the next Winamp release.

But maybe DrO will enable his Hash-Section code before or someone else finally will update winamp-it-it.wlz. But for now, it's even better than nothing.

not sure? 10 something? how do i check? i don't do much gaming.

Plugin (and version) affected by/causing the bug

replaygain analyzer, 1.06

A full, detailed, step-by-step method of reproduction

first, here is the issue...

i can no longer get the rg analyzer to assign values in the tags. it seems like it analyzes my files as it always has, but when its done, no values are stored or written in the tags.

i have it configured such that the check mark is NOT in it, so it writes the values at whatever point it wants to automatically. it needs no confirmation from me to be able to do this.

i did thousands of files like this, sometimes as may as 7k at a time, np. but the last time i tried to do 10k, and when it finished, no values were written in the ML or the tags.

i have since tried to alter tags and other info... no luck, even if i just try one file at a time. i never get an error message or anything. i have cleared the library and rebuilt it. no dice.

i store my music on a ext usb 2.0 drive. and this happened b4 and after sp1 for vista ultimate.

so it might have been an update from windows that did this, or it might be something related to disk management and permissions.

i'm not sure if trying 10k at once, as opposed to 7k, "broke it" or what. but something is seriously wrong if not with winamp, with my config, and i can't really explain as to what would have changed.

thx for any light u can shed.

no sooner do i post then i solve the mystery...

you have to tell vista to run winamp as administrator, then you have the permissions needed. damn annoying vista. however, an error from winamp (suggesting this solution) would be nice. (right click winamp icon, compatibility tab)

how i had it working b4, i have no idea.

In Windows Explorer, right-click the root Music folder on your USB drive, select 'Properties', then go to the 'Security' tab, and click 'Edit'.

Highlight your username in the list, and make sure 'Modify' and 'Write' (plus any others) are checkmarked in the Permissions list below.

Click Apply, then OK.

Normally, people would store their music files in a folder with Write permissions, and therefore wouldn't come across this particular problem...

Won't burn CD

I'm trying to burn from MP3 to CD and WinAmp refuses to burn it.

I have a blu-ray burner - MATSHITA BD-RE UJ-220.

All I get is an error message.

The attached image shows two messages - The first shows no burn speed and the second asks for a blank cd, while it clearly shows in the menu that it has a blank cd.

Normally, people would store their music files in a folder with Write permissions, and therefore wouldn't come across this particular problem...
you are totally correct of course, but most users aren't that swift. they won't be able to figure any of this out.

what really had me confused, (and i'm a comptia a+ certified tech), is that it WAS working. for no reason known to me it just stopped working. i don't know if its b/c of a windows update or what, but it went from working to not working, with no clue to me as to why.

i think the bigger point is that if winamp tries to write to tags in files, and can't due to lacking permissions to be able to do so, i think that should generate an error message so the user has some clue about how to go about fixing the issue, and so they know its NOT winamps fault the operation is failing, its a windows issue.

jmho. as you know egg, i think you guys are all awesome. thanks for showing me the right way to do it btw.
