If you have an older system with limited resources see:
http://sawgweb.com/like_the_wind/

That being said, I have both running right now:
winamp.exe: 55,916K

Then..
itunes.exe: 88,316K
iTunesHelper.exe: 4,892K
AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe: 11,320K
AppleMobileDeviceService.exe: 4,924K
iPodService.exe: 4,264K
mDNSResponder.exe: 1,684K
Total: 115,400K

Get to work, Apple!

A couple things. Context matters. iTunes idle with nothing running, probably will use less then another program with tracks loaded. Your computer comes with RAM, Windows tries to use it as efficiently as possible, having a lot of free RAM would be a bad thing.

Everyone here could post completely diffrent numbers, sometimes with iTunes ahead, sometimes with Winamp. If you judge a program alone by one snapshot of Task Manager you really aren't evaluating a program properly.

And STILL, if that isn't good enough, fell free to use iTunes exclusively.

lol!! Get to work Winamp, rigggggghhhhhht.
iTunes has a long long way to go to even come close to being as good as Winamp, in design and resource usage.
Not to mention that the installation size of iTunes+Quicktime is absolutely phenominal for something that hardly does anything at all. Both Quicktime and iTunes haven't even changed in years, and are still absolutely useless as players.

You try to compare a flexible media player with bloatware, aren't you?

LOL, yeah. I don't know what the installed size is but my parents' computer wanted to update quicktime so it asked to download the ONE HUNDRED MEGABYTE installer. That was quickly denied! Does it come with its own existing music library?
