What was your first Winamp version?

I tried to search for an existing thread, but the search function appears to be broken.

What was your first Winamp version?

I believe my first version was 2.30

When I bought my first pc after a few years of computer abstinence that was the latest and supposedly greatest version.

and it seems 2.04 was the first version i installed on a computer.
at least thats what the label tells me.

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

Don't know the version anymore, but it was Shareware at that time.
Nothing changed with registration though, whatever worked before still worked the same way after.

It must have been in the low 1 numbers, probably 1.0. I believe I was running a 75 Mhz Pentium and Windows 95 when Winamp made it's debut. I also had a 75 Mhz DX4 thinkpad which was not powerful enough to run Winamp.

This was probably where computers started looking like modern ones and where the internet started looking like the internet, albeit with modems.

Music over the internet. It was novel. It was also pretty lame because of the low, low bitrates available. Hours to encode a CD to mp3, 32 or even 8 kbps mono. wow!

ah - I found the cd with my first version: 2.23

Is winampheaven.net still around somewhere? it gives me an errormessage. I remember it being very useful for checking the releasedates of all versions.

When I worked at the computer labs at the college I went to, I remember one of my coworkers come up to me to tell me that he had found this cool new beta mp3 player. 'Twas winamp 0.97b.

2.7-something, 8 I think, or that might the first update I downloaded. I need to thank Compaq though for bundling it with the computer we bought. If they hadn't, I might still be using media player.

I believe mine was at or around v1.666

Heh, I remember the first mp3 I listened to was Nas' 'If I ruled the World' on a copy of WinPlay3 shareware (that I got with a FateX Download off of AOL), and only played the first 30 seconds... but I was astonished by the sound quality in such a small file.

Hunted around for a free mp3 player, came across winamp, and the rest was history.

Actually I think I can say that WinAMP was and is the only program that runs almost 24/7 on my computer.

Maaan, the before-winamp3 days were some good but crazy times... I still vividly remember getting excited over winamp 2.0

I got my first computer before I graduated high school back in 2000, probably February. So 2.62 is probably the version I started with. I know I used 2.666, and I know I had at least two or three versions before that.

One of the very early 2.x versions, fuck if I know which one it was since I didn't even "know" what Winamp was at first...It was already and somehow installed on the Compaq Presario we had almost a decade ago, probably having to do with some of the AOL stuff also installed on it...

I remember I "discovered" it when it was the program used to open a couple of random-ass audio files (Some legitimate audio files, others just extensionless files tied to open with Winamp like an audio file) I had tried to access...I don't know how I came to it as my preferred AV player, but I knew it was more convenient to use than WMP and the skin customization was cool as hell...

Mini browser was 2.x ish ...

I found a post that clearly had it confirmed in 2.9, but I believe it was much earlier in the 2.x releases than that.
