Exclamation i wish... some new news about the linux version would appear

Any chance of a beta of winamp 3 for linux ? because the alpha really sucks.

It seems any mentions of linux port has disappeared. I know its being worked on and no i dont wanna reply saying check here this is what xyz said 2 months ago/6 months ago.. id like some new news. Is it dead ? is it still in very early development ?

Any chance of knowing how long linux users will have to wait a timeline

tommorow.. next week... next month.. next year.. never ?

And incase some smart arse decides to post when its done.. i know but some sort of timescale would be nice.

thankya

At least it is before next year. My heart is already skipping beats and my skins has major goosebumps.

I know it will be well worth the wait though.

What is the bet that bug happens to be the fact you are using newer versions libraries than that alpha was programmed/compiled to use.

I am sure if they released a beta tomorrow it would work on all current versions of GNU/Linux.

One day left. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I don't expect it to be released. Then again... A Windows update was just released not too long ago. Maybe you Nullsoft guys are going to surprise us Linux users with a great new way to crank up music on New Year's Eve, eh?

I use Winamp3 on linux as much as possible, sometimes it's just too much of a pain to bother, but I have almost as many problems with XMMS as Winamp3, and that's only an Alpha.

Hang in there!

as far as xmms goes its a very good player dont get me wrong i just like Winamp. I liked the player in the old days i still do. xmms is very good its given me no problems and ive been using it for years, no way does winamp3 alpha compare to xmms i would be lucky to get winamp3 to not segfault after 5 minutes of usage, but no doubt winamp3 when it does finally get released for linux will be awesome.

Ahh fuck it i enjoy the threads in this forum.. Ill still be around. waiting patiently.

Its AOL's choice not nullsoft's choice to GPL the code. just make sure you point your finger at the right people and or company not just the easiest.

And yes it IS being worked on. Give it time, The longer you wait the better it will be when its released for all of you linux peeps to play with

ok

Thats a shame really, cos if they could open source it, then it not only would have been released but another 5 updates woulda already prolly been done.

/me waits paitiently, grumbling aol sucks ass.

no doubt it would be cool.

If you guys need beta testers, then i would be more than glad to help, debian unstable user here.

opensourceing wa3 would lead to nothing more than hundreds of forked versions. updates maybe, but it is being worked on, and updates are already there. they just arent public.

Well, it's 17 days after the new year... Can we at least get a developer build released to the public? I'll take anything - just about anything will be better than the alpha

Linux users must be the most virtuous people on this planet.. Nah make it universe.

Seriously tho all those holding out for something more up to date than wa3 alpha dont bother. They are scrapping 3 and going back to 2 with some shit form 3. basically forget it for linux, or wait another couple of years.

Either way, from the response about the linux version publicly over the time i started this thread till now. has been nearly nothing, which leads to the question of whats been done prolly not a lot. Only one person working on it. Brennan i think.

As nullsoft doesnt make money from winamp, ie from selling it, i dont understand why they cant open source it. If it had been open sourced not only would it have been ported but probably the bugs would have been fixed and work on the next revision would have been started. Look at the Openoffice.org and star office project look how its worked. Same thing could be done here key elements could be held back and made closed source all the rest open sourced (gpled) given to the streams of linux developers to look upon and work and no doubt u would have an excellent mp3 player by the end of it. Well your choice your decision with a heavy hand from aol no doubt but anyway. good luck with what ever u decide to develop. Shame what i thought would happen is happening.

Other thing how many winamp developers actually use linux day to day as a desktop. I wouldnt be surprised if none of them do.
