All I want for Christmas is a... New Face?

Patients whose faces have been seriously disfigured by cancer, burns or accidents could be helped by such transplants.

It can be very difficult for surgeons to reconstruct a patient's face, because it needs to be able to move so people can convey expressions and feelings, particularly the lips, eyes and cheeks.

Skin grafts taken from other parts of the body, which patients can currently have, do not allow movement or sensitivity, creating a mask-like effect, said Mr Butler.

But he said face transplants, which could involve muscle and nerves as well as skin, would allow animation.
Would you donate your face? Many people regularly donate organs after death, however do you think it would be a bit too freaky to have someone essentially "wearing" your face after you've passed on? Or would you be willing to let a disfigured person enjoy having a "normal" face?

i think it would be great but might cause some confusion. It would be kind of funny if the person who you donated your face was walking down the street then a person came up to them and was one of your old friends and started talkin to the person who has your face, thinking they're you (if they didnt know you were dead).

Or even more; You're wearing the face of a person who has a really bad reputation. If someone that knew him and hated him for doing something saw you walking down the street looking vulnerable and recongnized the face you have on, they could probably just run up and beat you up, thinking you're that other person...

Yeah...

[edit]Either that, or they'd shoot you if that person had done something really terrible...And just incase some of you people are curious, RD said "fucking inbred"...

That would suck...[/edit]

Well, I don't think that you'd be asthetically the same as the person that you got the "materials" from would you? If so, it would be weird, but I don't see it as anything different than walking around with somebody else's liver. Anything after I die to help others live easier is fine with me. Really. Why should I care? I'd be dead!

Lots of love,

It's questionable since face is basically primary source of our identity. You can't really identify a person by looking at other parts of the body really (normally) so it's not just a body organ like a kidney, it's a huge part of your identity.

Moreover, as this technique evolves it would be way too easy to get rid of one person and use their face to become them. As we all know, anything is possible for a price. Of course I'm not saying that the research/practice of this should be ceased but this is a big - that should be taken into consideration. Many will try to abuse it.

I don't think I'd donate my face. It's basically a physical representation of you. The rest of your body is pretty much irrelevant.

imagine, worse yet, at least for me, if someone who DID know the person was dead saw you on the street, but didn't know the person had donated his/her face?
that would freak the hell out of me

and also, i do think that it would be hard for someone to live with another person's face

theyve been doing this for ages, this isn't new. its how they control you. these new faces for public use contain chemicals to alter you, to stop anything bad happening, political parties can put drugs in their to make sure you "vote" for them next "election"

You even have my taste in motorcycles... I wouldn't mind a Honda CBR900RR either.
