Idea for DJs - plot listeners on map?

If anybody knows of a program that could do this, by all means point me in its direction...

Through the administration panel you could see the IP addresses of everybody listening to your station. It would be nice if you could have a script to take all those IPs every 5 minutes or so, run them through the arin whois database, and plot them on a map that would be updated on your station's web page. I think this would be very interesting.

Does anybody else think this is a good idea, or is it biting off much more than one could chew?

??

hmm, answering my own question, I found this: http://www.atgc.org/geolocate_1_2/screenShot.htm

It would be nice to get that working with the DNS stats. Would anybody know how?

This geolocate program is pretty good. I was able to plot a series of IPs taken from a text file, and output them to the map. If I can get it to output the image to a file and then automatically FTP the image, and run this process every 5 minutes it would be great. Here's the last 45 mins of my station just for fun..

Btw, what program is it that generates that niffty little graph of total listeners (like the one above) or of TTSL (like in Tom Pepper's sig).

Thanks,
rg.

If your using SAM2, then it has one built in. If not, then I'm not for sure .

Yea, just ask your shoutcast hosting company if they have an MRTG stats page for you. If you're hosting locally, I don't know what to tell ya.

I use SAM2 to broadcast to a Shoutcase server in Texas...

But my sig pic (seen below) is something I created to use with SAM alone.

Maybe I could also write a script for use with Shoutcast's XML output. Shouldn't be too hard.

BTW, you can download the script from my home page (also below), but it requires you to have SAM2 on your local machine, and php on your webhost.

Enjoy!

I am VERY interested in mapping listeners on a google map api. I've seen something similar done on imvu.com at this url:

http://www.imvu.com/catalog/web_map_frame.php

They pull 200 logged on users and plot them on a google map. VERY COOL!

There must be a way to fetch listner IP's off the Shoutcast DNAS and toss them into an XML file where the API can plot them. Of course somewhere inbetween those IP's have to be geocoded. Hrm....

.

Intersting Idea..
The Google Maps Mash's are probably the
most flexible for this..
The development of something like this
presents a unlimited number of options (I think)

Similar to the post above made by odogg...
This site plots the visitor IP location on
a Google map AND includes a live, in real time chat room.

See it in action here:

MIDNIGHT CODERS GOOGLE MAP CHAT

A comination of the two ideas
(plotting a visitor IP address on a map, AND a Live chat feature)
Seems like it would be a very cool interactive
feature for a station..

..yes?

Check it: go to www.dogglounge.com and click on the map icon by the listener count. Awwww yeah! The yahoo map is up pulling ip's from this existing script: http://www.dogglounge.com/serverstats/server.php then sends the ips to a database via a cron and then geocodes them for plotting on the map.

Has anyone else got something similar going yet?

Yeah. I put together something similar. It's based on website visitors, rather than listeners (since I don't have access to the server logs on the relays I use) but the basic code would work with any list of IPs. It displays cities or countries, for the past hour or day.

If I get time, I'll wrap it up into a tidy package at some point & post it - or you can play with the geoIP service & flash map app I'm using. Links are on the site.

This looks like what I am looking to do. Could someone help me with a script to do this. I have access to the server info, and a list of listeners' IP addresses. What I guess I don't know how to do is convert them all to a list latitudes and longitudes that I can then send to the map. If anyone can help that would be great.
