Big bug.

Hello :-),
I'm from Italy and this is my first post in the Winamp forum.
I registered just because I'd like to contribute to bug reporting, since this last one is very annoying and compromises Winamp functionality in its roots.

Here's the bug:
With Winamp 5.092, when I try to seek in MP4/AAC files, the program always crashes and a dialog box appears saying
(I translate it in English because, you know, my Windows is also in Italian ;) ) «This program executed an invalid operation and it will be closed»

This is what appears in the box just below (and which is , I think, much more important)

Quote:
WINAMP ha provocato un errore di pagina non valida nel
modulo (= caused an invalid page fault in module) IN_WM.DLL in 018f:10016fe0.

Oh, my system is:
Pentium III
256 MB RAM
Windows 98 SE
Video card: Creative NVIDIA Riva TNT2 M64/M64 Pro (but I don't think is important)
Sound card: Sound Blaster Live! 1024 Player
DirectX 9.0c

I wrote here because it seems to interest a plugin (as you can also see from what I reported above ;) ), the IN_WM plugin (v2.08) included in Winamp 5.092 and it seems really strange to me because it happens *always* with MP4/AAC and never with WMA, which I can seek when I want and as I want... o___O

Obviously, I have no 3rd-party plug-ins..., nothing of nothing

I've never had troubles with Winamp, except for some bugs that were corrected and one of the latest version trying to connecting *always* to Internet.
Instead, I've always appreciated the simplicity and functionality of the program.

Hoping my English is good and my translation of above is good :) , thank you for your attention.

Thanks for the report.

I've split your post from the sticky thread into its own thread here.

I can't reproduce the problem with the latest internal (pre 5.093) test build of in_wm.dll (note that a few known 5.092 bugs have already been fixed).

However, I will bring this to the devs' attention, just incase.

in_wm.dll should be version 2.09. Perhaps try re-installing winamp and making sure that you check the "Windows Media Audio" under Audio File Support.

The in_wm.dll is active, even for non-WMA types, because of protection required for DRM.

Benski, I first re-installed it the way you said, and it had the IN_WM.DLL v2.09, but the bug was always there, then uninstalled WA an re-installed it, and the bug was always there…

But, when I re-installed it after uninstall (and therefore I had to set all my preferences, included the "No Visualization" option in Classic Skin -> Classic visualization), I realized one thing:
When the visualization was active (spectrum analizer, which is default) seeking EVEN the .MP3 crashed the program (the problem was always with IN_WM.DLL)...
I don't know if this could help...

Hello, I'm here again .
I downloaded and installed the new Winamp 5.093, and now, when seeking in MP4, the program no more gives an error dialog box, but it FREEZES, not only itself, but the WHOLE computer, so I have to press reset (Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work)…

Oh, I realized that I can't edit my message (it says that can't be modified after 3 hours, sorry, but I thought it was like Invision Power Board, I'm more familiar with it), but here's the addendum:

I *double-checked* that in_wm is version 2.1…

Even with the Audiocoding plug-in...

Hello, I'm here again .
I just tried to use a different plug-in for the MP4/AAC/M4A, the one you advised to use in a post in Winamp Discussion, "Sticky: Most Requested Features / Plug-ins" by Sawg
(link: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=155680)

Well, I realized that with this plugin (see the attachment), the situation is like version 5.092, i.e. if seeking in MP4 & co., the program crashes with the same message error I reported…
At least, it doesn't freeze the computer, and I don't have to press reset!
Hope this helps.
