Comet C/2006 A1 (Pojmanski)

Very quickly before I leave to work, there's a new comet that was found earlier this year, named Pojmanski.

It's fairly close to Venus in the early morning at the moment. I managed to take a VERY faint image of it (it was at magnitude 6.7 at the time, and at 0.7716 AU away (do a damn google search))

Anyway's, here's the image (arrow added to help you find it), along with a scrren shot of my astronomy program (Cartes de Ciel, it's free) showing its location at the time I took the image (about 5:45am EST, Sunday March 5th, 2006).

The tail can be seen, even fainter. The tail almost looks like grain, but it can be seen.

That's a pretty good effort being mag 6.7, and being nearly 1 AU unit away.
I have Cartes, nice software. It's been ages since I used my telescope, I should get it out sometime. Venus is great throught the scope because you can catch it as a crescent at times.

Looks like a digital photopgraph, what camera were you using?

Why did I already know what that means?

Very cool, though. I wonder if it'd be possible for me to mount my camera to my old telescope somehow...

Isn't that the distance between the Earth and the Sun, 1 AU?

Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will.
I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side...

An AU (Astronomical Unit) is approximately equal to the mean distance between Earth and Sun. The current AU is equal to 92,955,807.26 miles (generally stated as 93 million miles) plus or minus 98.4249 feet (30 meters).

1 light-year is equal to about 63,241 AU. The nearest star is about 4.22 lightyears away (Proxima Centauri).
