Problem playing Windows Media audio streams

Just installed a full version of 5.5 c/w Windows Media Decoder 3.27. WM live audio streams that played okay yesterday under version 5.35 do not appear to be working today under 5.5. I don't get an error, just an "end of playback" notification after the HTTP url is resolved to an MMS url. The same stream plays properly in Windows Media Player 11.

For example, http://mfile2.akamai.com/9617/live/r...asx?bkup=38925

I ran WireShark traces on both the WinAmp and WMP playback attempts. The WinAmp trace shows an RTSP DESCRIBE sent to the server which responds with an RTSP 404 File Not Found. The WMP trace shows the same RTSP DESCRIBE sent to the server but this time it succeeds with an RTSP 200 OK.

There are only two differences between the WinAmp vesion of the RTSP DESCRIBE and the WMP version of that same message:

1) the WinAmp version changes the URL received in a previous HTTP 200 OK response to all upper case letters; the WMP version leaves the case unchanged.
2) the WinAmp version includes a Referer: http://www.winamp.com entry.

I suspect the problem is #1.

Hope that helps.

Both the stream url's referenced in that .asx (right-click your link, save to disk, open in Notepad) play perfectly fine for me with Winamp 5.5.

i can confirm problem.

when you open the asx in winamp it changes the case, and the stream doesn't load.

maybe a bug in the asx parser?

if you manually load the mms stream (without upper case) it works.

this guy has the same problem(but I thought it was a bit strange because the asx is renamed as m3u)

Doh! Yeah, reproduced (just by drag+dropping the asx link into the Winamp playlist).

Changed the thread title accordingly.

Moved thread from Tech Support to Bug Reports.

Copied to internal Bugtracker.

problem is internally fixed now. issue was due to incorrectly processing the inner part of the <REF HREF=.../> block between the quotes. though there is then issue of why the server being connected to is working with fixed cased paths... (just to play devil's advocate)

I am getting that same message, so what was the solution to this problem for us laymen?

When I open the asx file in notepad I can copy the value of that href attribute to and play that location just fine in winamp so I know that I have the remoteing portion working fine, now i just need to setup xmms to play that file correctly.

Should be fixed in Winamp 5.51 (no ETA).

Post a specific link for now, I guess, we can dig out the yummy URLs.

I was having this problem with Winamp 5.5, I upgraded to 5.51 and still seeing the same problem. I upgraded both the home computer running Winamp Remote and my laptop that is used to play the stream. The Playlst Editor shows [Connecting]http://... and it goes through each song and then shows End of Playback. If I close Winamp and then launch it again, it works for a few songs then the problem comes back.

If I right-click a song and choose Playlist Entry and copy the URL to the clipboard, this URL will play fine from Windows Media Player 11.

EDIT: I may have posted this to the wrong thread, not sure if this problem is related. I meant to post it as a reply to one of these threads:

Yeah, well, you'd be best posting in one of those threads instead, since the 5.5-specific issue outlined in this thread (asx parser capitalizing all links in .asx playlists) was fixed in 5.51.
