We need to hook up when you're coming through Houston. I just got my truck registered/titled in Texas, and my new Texas driver's license is in the mail on its way to me. Since it looks like I'm going to be here a while, I figured I'd go ahead and become an official Texan. Do you guys still have my phone number?

Not in my phone... which is weird because like a good stalker, I usually keep everything. PM that bad boy.

Houston, we have a problem a 73-lb dictionary.

I need to know if there's a way to SHUT DOWN WINAMP automatically.
We use the program for a remote connection with California (We're in Texas) and just need to be sure they close right at 3:00am (which has not been happening)
If I can close WINAMP only, then I can get ZARA Radio to continue with it's business.

THANKS

I've heard the humidity in Houston is worse than in Austin. That true? I only went to Houston once in my 2 years in central TX.

It can be very humid here, yes. I'd imagine that it's generally much more humid than Austin since it's much closer to the gulf.

Something you might want to check out, it's certainly on my bucket list.

http://drafthouse.com/austin

It's a movie theater, where you can eat steak and drink beer... From what I gather. I guess it all depends on if Shy Jr. is old enough... And if it's your type of thing lol.

Don't go down 6th street on Saturday nights. It's more for the grown ups though it is fun. I never had the opportunity to go to the Drafthouse. I wish I would have went when I was there.

We'll be in Killeen for three days before driving straight to Houston, having lunch with Sarge, then continuing through to Louisiana the same day. No time for Austin.

Curveball. My family has moved to Morgantown, WV very close to West Virginia University, which is on the northern side of the state, near Pennsylvania. This doesn't necessarily need to change anything, as I am pretty flexible with driving, but if it makes things better for you or others, it could open doors for points of interest.

Sad to say that we're having to scale back and stick closer to the coast between Florida and DC, skipping WV and most of VA.

Updated map: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...a362b6d5866765

It'd be great if the likes of you (Ted) and Ryan, even Benski, could make it out to see us in DC, but I realise it's a long way from home.

bummr

Them's the breaks. We are flying 15 hours each way, then driving 4500 miles from start to finish... and unfortunately we had stretched ourselves too thin, to the point that something had to give. Sorry, guys. It would've been great to meet you all IRL.

We will still be able to catch up with those Winampers unlucky enough to be in our path of destruction...

I'm currently stuck in Louisiana working on my gf's truck. What was supposed to be a 3-day project has turned out to be a week+ long nightmare that has made me decide I will never buy another GM product ever again.

Reader's Digest version: Front suspension in her 2002 Chevy S10 (my dad gave this truck to her when he bought a new truck for himself) is needing new bushings and joints. I drive it from Texas over to Louisiana (where my mom lives). Dad drives over from Mississippi (where he lives) to help me since he has tools and lots of experience. Turns out, this truck requires a special tool that dad doesn't have. Had to special order it since NO ONE around here has it. Expedited delivery, and it's still taking more than 2 days to get here. In the meantime, truck is up on jack stands with the front end completely torn apart, and I'm stuck here until we can get it done.

I don't know if I'll be back in the Houston area on Friday. I'm having to use up all my vacation time since I couldn't get this done over the Labor Day weekend. If I'm still here on Fri/Sat, we could possibly meet up if it's not too far out of your way. My mom's place is just east of Baton Rouge just off of I-12. It would only be a small detour, but if there isn't time, I understand. If that tool arrives soon, I'll try to get the truck finished up tomorrow so that I can be back in the Houston area on Friday like originally planned.

I'm pretty sure you guys have limited internet access on the road, so I'll send you a text as well.

To summarise
  • Dinner with Sandman: a really bloody good time was had by all.
  • Lunch with Sarge: turned into breakfast with special guest appearance by Sarge Sr. who seemed a very decent bloke.
  • Dinner with Trigear and DragonSon: turned into dinner with Trigear and girlfriend.
  • Dinner with fickle: turned into dinner without fickle.
  • Something with Widdy: turned into a phone call with Widdy. Probably as close as we'll ever get. Shame we were too time poor to visit all the suggested haunts.
  • Lunch with Alice: turned into lunch, dinner, and guided tour of LA hot spots with Alice (who may have drunkenly molested Drew Carey (I may have made up part of that)). Best day ever? Maybe pipped at the post by Day 1 at Orlando... but very close.

It's a shame we couldn't make it work with DS, fickle and Widdy, not to mention Randy (R.I.P.), Steve, Ryan, Ted, Benski, Deeder and whoever else might've wanted in on the action. Maybe next time..?

Speaking more broadly, to the swathes of Winampers residing in the States or the UK or Europe or Australia... Y'all should get out and meet up with each other... before it's too late. Randy and I had vaguely planned over the years to hang out and drink a few beers "at some point" but we left it too late, and that's something I'll always regret. Fuck inhibitions. We're all good people (basically...) so just fucking do it already.

I'll just go out and say it. I'm embarrassed and ashamed with myself. I really should have made a better effort at getting to the Washington DC area when you were there. I was with in-laws that weekend, and I can see them just about any weekend. I'm sorry I didn't come out, but I really wish I would have, to meet good internet friends in real life and also to meet someone who can make such an enormous goal into reality. I'm sincerely sorry I didn't come out. Perhaps there will be another chance.

Don't beat yourself up, Ted, you weren't to know that we're really okay in real life. And like Sarge's post suggests, we likely would've only had time for a very quick flying visit on this trip. Next time™ we'll do things a bit differently – more flying, less driving, giving us more time in fewer, more desirable places (more so than, for example, Lafayette LA and Pensacola FL – boring!).

Rather than trying to meet up with Widdy in person, just get her on the phone and she'll talk your ear off... all... night... long... oh yeah.

If you're ever in Pensacola FL again, definitely go to the Naval Air Museum. I haven't been there since I was a kid, but man is it awesome.
