Are you using an alternative CD file system ? to find out, open the CD in explorer. If you see a lot of folders with wav files you got the modified one. This might be the problem.

At a guess, you've probably installed some software that updates the CD-ROM File System drivers.
Look in your C:\Windows\System\IOSUBSYS folder and check out the properties for CDFS.VXD | CDTSD.VXD | CDVSD.VXD
If they've been modified at a later date than your OS [Windows version], then you'll need to search the CAB files on your Windows CD-ROM to replace them with the originals.
CDFS.VXD is the main one you need to check.
(Also look to see if there's a file with this name in the main System dir.
If so, replace it with the one in IOSUBSYS.)

There's probably more info regarding this issue at: http://support.microsoft.com
Or you can try this site's search facility and search all forums for CDFS.VXD
I'm sure it's cropped up b4 somewhere.
