An Update, I guess.

I may not be around as much as I once was on these forums, hell, many of us haven't, and over the years the internet hasn't been a place where I felt the need to turn to for sympathy. But 2 days ago my Sister's 10 year battle with drugs, addiction, and the struggles with mental illness that it caused came to a tragic end. I've lost family members before, but these times struck me and my family the hardest. I know my wife and I will be fine. My Dad and especially my Mom, who my sister has lived with for the duration of her fight, aren't doing so well and I'm confident my family will do the best they can to get them through this. The funeral hasn't been planned yet but I'm hoping that afterwards we can all find peace and remember her for who she once was.

RIP Elizabeth Arata
9/16/1986-6/14/2012

you will always be my little sister.

My dad's sister's son (my first cousin) drank himself to death (liver failure) a few years back. I wish there were something I could have done to help him. I was living a long way away from him at the time and didn't realize how bad it was getting. It hit me like a load of bricks, and that was my cousin. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you as a sibling. Sometimes when I hear of a death of a loved one, I give this poem. It's not much, but it helped me a bit the last time I had to go through the mourning process. Share it with your family if you think it might help.

Just to comfort you…

It’s not easy to lose the ones we love
Unbearable it seems, just the thought of the time to come apart
Be encouraged, strong, virtuous
Hold your head up
For the time you both shared will always have a special place in your heart

Be encouraged again
It will soon be time to let go,
Not forget;
Just to let go
The non-living are asleep
They have no will to, nor can they hurt the living
They place no blame on their passing
The time that has come, has come.
Celebrate the life passed with tears,
Followed by a gentle smile

The rose is a beautiful flower
Though in time its petals may wither and fall away,
Nothing changes the fact that it was beautiful,
And its beauty touched all who admired it

Don't forget to live before you die.

Hello Bizz, I'm so sorry for You. My condolences for You and Your family...
In my life I had also lost some family members. In my childhood (1972 and 1975) both grandparents died (the parents of my father and his sister). 1991 the cousine of my mother died with only 46 years (always a new tumor came, after she had fighted against the tumors 10 years long), she was the best of all family members. 2006 the sister of my mother died and 2010 the sister of my father. But nothing was so hard for me like the death of my father on 6th March 2003, after his very long fight against "Parkinson" since 1980. I had always wished, that my parents would die after me, but my father had died before me. My mother is 83 years old now, and she will leave us some day, too...
Losing a family member is very hard and a real trauma, especially, if it was the father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter. because that family member had lived together with You for so many years. I had experienced so many deaths in my life, too much, and it will never stop, I know that...
Greetings from Sabine Klare Aka Sternenmaschinebine

Jesus loves you [yes, you] so much, he even died for you so that you will not need to die, but live forever
