Unstable milk2 plugin?

Winamp 5.54 (build 2145)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Winamp Modern

OS: Windows XP sp2
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Pentium M Dothan 2.0GHZ
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800
Sound: Onboard SigmaTel C-Major Audio
DirectX v9.0c

Problem + Method of reproduction:
Milkdrop2 freezes winamp and stops audio. This is very easy to reproduce on my computer. I have set milkdrop to start in a window with the 'Integrate with winamp skin' box checked. The milkdrop window size is not huge, 640X480ish. If I have a single mp3 in the playlist and start it, then go to options->preferences->Visualization, click and hilight MilkDrop 2.0e, then click the 'start' button, the music will stop, the music counter will stop counting down although the milkdrop vis is going. The Task Manager shows winamp using an expected amount of CPU% with milkdrop running. Winamp is unresponsive at this point, and needs to be forcibly ended via 'end task' in task manager.

If it does not happen the first time I click the 'start' button to start the milkdrop vis while winamp is playing an mp3, if I simply click 'stop', wait a few seconds, and click 'start' a 2nd time, the above will happen.

I have had a few problems in the past where 'starting' and 'stopping' a vis too quickly (*especially* milkdrop) will produce a freeze or crash, but with 5.54 and milkdrop, this problem is much, much easier to produce.

ml_local or ml_wire problem

Winamp 5.54 (build 2147)
Quick install, third party plug-in: ml_ipod
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: All

OS: Windows XP sp2
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
Sound: Onboard SigmaTel High Definition Audio
DirectX ?

Problem + Method of reproduction:
The podcast channel column in the podcast smart view in the media library is all messed up. Sometimes it works, or seems ok, but when I hit the clear search (to reload the view) or simply click on a channel, it changes title to either gibberish, another podcast channel or even a song or album title that has nothing to do with podcasts. And even tracks are listed, they are not showed in the bottom view. Only the podcast channel column is problematic, all other columns works correctly.

Example of correct view: http://stashbox.org/157002/example1.JPG
Example of messed up view: http://stashbox.org/157003/example2.JPG

The bug is very easy to reproduce. Hitting the clear search will mess up the column. Clicking on another view and going back to the podcast view will fix it up.

It used to work in the previous version 5.53 and it started to do this obviously since I updated to 5.54. I didn't do a clean install because I am lazy and if it's not fixed I'll just go back to 5.53.

Winamp 5.54 no 3rd party plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bento big

OS: Windows XP sp2
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics:ATi X800
Sound: C-Media 3D
DirectX 9.0c

plug-in: pmp_ipod.dll 0.72 (presumably)
Problem + Method of reproduction:

Album art is not loaded correctly into the ipod.

Album art is available in a number of places from a number of sources. Some acquired using 3rd part programs some acquired withing winap. some as .jpg file in the album directories, some also embedded in the mp3 file tags, quite a mix really.

After loading to the ipod:
Album art appears in the album view on the ipod OK.
Album art appears in coverflow, but albums with mutliple artist values with a common album artist are not recognised as such and appear multiple times (this me be a problem inherited from elsewhere ?).

Album art does not appear in the "now playing" view on the ipod.

I have loaded some mp3s into the ipod from itunes and the album art is appearing in the "now playing" view ...

Winamp 5.54
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bento Big

OS: Windows XP Pro sp3
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2600 Mhz
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon 2400 Pro
Sound: Onboard SoundMax HD Audio
DirectX v9.0c
PLugin: Nullsoft Online Services v1.61 [ml_online.dll]

I'm seeing erratic album art and artist info behaviour when listening to AOL Radio stations. Sometimes if the stream starts mid-song then the album art in the "Now Playing" area is only updated when the next song starts. However, it is never again updated after that. Also, the artist and track info is never displayed in the songticker.
Then sometimes, the album art is displayed straight away when the stream starts, and the songticker is updated correctly.
This behaviour seems to appear when you add the radio station to the Winamp playlist, then restart Winamp, and try to play the station directly from the playlist. It will not update the album info or the songticker. You can remedy the situation by going into AOL Radio and adding a second instance of the station to the playlist. When you play the second instance, it will correctly update the album and artist info. Furthermore, if you now try to play the original instance of the station on the playlist it will correctly update the album art and info.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Add an AOL radio station to your playlist.
2. Play the station. Album art and info should be correctly displayed.
3. Restart Winamp.
4. Play the station from your playlist. The station will simply list an obscure URL and no album art or info will be displayed.
5. Add a second instance of the same station from AOL radio.
6. Start the second instance. It will correctly display album art and info.
7. Start the first instance of the station in the playlist. This will now also show the correct artist info and album art.

Dashboard sorts in wrong order

Winamp Pro 5.54 x86 Jul 9 2008
Bento Large skin
Win XP SP3
Dell Optiplex 750, Intel Core2Duo E6750 2.66GHz, 3.25 GB RAM

Dashboard still sorts "Top Rated," "Recently Played," "Recently Added," and "Most Played" in reverse order (displays the lowest rated, oldest, and least-played entries, not the highest rated, most recent, and most played entries). This should be easy to fix.

On the other hand, the "History" pane in dashboard does in fact put the newest entry on top.

Steps to reproduce: start Winamp and select "Dashboard" The bug reproduces every time.

pmp_activesync.dll

Create the playlist on the computer and add several files for playlists.

Connect the device.
Mark the playlist for synchronization.
In settings go to Portables -> Device -> Advanced.
Enter valid folders for device in all the edit boxes.

Press the Sync button for this device in "Media Library"
Result:
- Files are copied to specified folder on the device
- Playlist is NOT created on the device

Bug exists for a long time (seems from the moment of plugin development).

Winamp 5.541 (5.5.4.2165)
clean install
Winamp Language Pack: None
Skin: Winamp Classic
WinXP64 SP2
Plugin: ml_autotag 2.03

It's not possible to use the auto-tag plugin on files stored on a samba server since they are all marked read-only and auto-tag seems to check this. The share is writable but all folders are marked read-only. Changing the attributes via properties has no effect due to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549/en-us and using attrib does not work either.

I suggest auto-tag stop checking the flag.

Clean Winamp 5.541 install, no 3rd party plugins. Bug happens with 5.54 too.

Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop;

CPU: AMD Turion64 X2 TL-50 1.6 GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2-533MHz
HDD: Toshiba 320GB 2.5" SATA HDD
OS: Windows XP MCE 2005 with SP3
Sound: Sigmatel HD Audio
Video: ATI Xpress 1150 (ATI X300)

Plugin: something in the Media Library (local media view)

Bug report:

When albums in the standard 3-pane view are sorted by album title in the bottom (track) list, albums with many different artists such as compilation albums are sorted by artist initial instead of consecutive track order, thus creating a playlist on double-clicking a track that doesn't have them in track order. If an option was added to select how to sub-sort these / how they were sorted when sorting by album, I'd be happy. I can't remember how far back this goes, as I've only started using Winamp again regularly in the last month, when 5.54 was released.

If I pull up a bunch of compilations in 3-pane on 5.541 and click first on track to sort by track, then click on album to sort on album in the bottom pane, they sort properly, by album, and then by track within each album, regardless of the different artists' names.

Plugin: may be the ipod or just winamp itself..

BUG:
When i drag anything from 'recently added' to my ipod's playlist (because i want a playlist for recent songs) the winamp freezes and suddenly crashes.. now i don't know if its the ipod plugin or winamp, because i can drag files from the library into the playlist. just not from 'recently added'.

I've been on holiday the past 2 weeks, and realised something missing from the original post. This is with FLAC albums, and I can't remember it happening with MP3 CDs. I will give it a go and see whether the issue is still there. Basically, it sorts it in "Artist" alphabetical order, not in track order.

EDIT: On a completely separate note, is the WMA input plugin throttled to slow decoding? Outputting a user-made (non-copyright) WMA to WAV for editing takes ages with the Nullsoft plugin (not much above real-time), and I found a quicker solution via AviSynth and DirectShowSource with the DirectShow plugin (using the Microsoft WMA DirectShow decoder), which did 24 hours WMA in a couple minutes.)

Am far too late to edit posts, but can confirm this happens with MP3 and MP4 files. It's something that has changed since 5.53 I think, but I don't know what.

In a nutshell, multi-artist albums when sorted by "Album name" are sub-sorted by artist initial, rather than the track number. Am I the only one with this problem? I cannot get it to behave like it used to!

@fredke: I tried this, and it didn't work. I suspect it's a bad Winamp install, so I'm gonna uninstall and re-install and see if the problem's still there.

The problem is the sorting order uses Artist in place of Album Artist when Album Artist is empty. See this thread:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....33#post2411233

@fredke: Winamp does not (currently) have the feature of sorting by multiple columns. This just seems to work for you because you happen to have your Album Artists tagged. In reality it doesn't matter what column you click before you sort by Album.

Video screen disappears after viewing 1(st) video

I didn't find any thread about this and guessed the problem would be solved automatically, but since it's a problem for at least 1 year, I now make this post:

Winamp: 5.541 (and older versions till 5.2)
Skin: MMD3.wal

OS: Windows XP sp2
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core2 Dual 6850 3.0GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GeForce GTS 8800 512Mb
Sound: SoundMax
DirectX: 9.0c

-Problem + Method of reproduction:
Whenever I open a video, the video plays fine. When its finished, winamp removes the videoscreen. So when I want to open a second video or let the player play the next video, the Video-screen won't show / come back, but I do hear sound.

When I enqueue more than 1 video (.mpg / .wmv / .avi / etc), only the first video plays with video screen, the others wont show, but only produce sound.

When I right-click on the player to see what screens are opened, the Video screen is activated: "Video is checked", but no Videoscreen is visible. Even when I click the option or press [Alt]+[v] nothing happens, no videoscreen comes.(See attachment)

-Workaround for this:
1)Close winamp
2)Double click the next video I want to watch
3)Go back to 1)

I would like to play vids without the workaround.

Thanks in advance

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
We don't support 3rd-party skins, especially if it doesn't happen with Winamp Classic, Modern or Bento skins. There might be an updated MMD3 available somewhere on the forums, but for now, try unchecking "Close video window after playback ends" in Prefs -> Video.

i think the Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 4.6 [in_mp3.dll]
has problem with winamp 5.541 listening AAC media files.

when listening, at start, the sound is normal, but after 4 sec , this is noise and that for all .aac i have, also when I seek everywhere in files.

i put Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 4.4 [in_mp3.dll] and its normal with this version

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
We can't reproduce the problem. Please provide us with a link to a sample file that exhibits the problem. Also include system specs (Windows OS, soundcard, etc) in your reply (see first post in thread for details).

Toggling Visualization With Global Hotkeys Crashes Winamp!

Winamp 5.54
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bento Big

OS: Windows XP Pro sp3
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2400 Mhz, Overclocked to 3GHz
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: 2x 8800GTX SLI
Sound: Onboard Creative SoundBlaster XFI
DirectX v9.0c
PLugin: Milkdrop & Global Hotkeys

After Winamp 5.5 I have noticed a problem when using global hotkeys to toggle visualizations on and off. This applies to both Milkdrop and Advanced Visualization Studio. In Winamp 5.5 I can toggle to my hearts content but later versions Winamp crash when trying to toggle visualizations off for the second time.

Here is what happens:
1. Starting with a fresh install of Winamp 5.541
2. Choose Winamp as your default visualization
I set it to start in full screen mode, but either way it does not work.
3. Enable global hotkeys and set visualization toggle to F11 (The key assignment does not matter)
4. Play a song
5. Press F11 and Milkdrop launches fine
6. Press F11 and Milkdrop closes fine
7. Press F11 and Milkdrop launches again
8. Press F11 again and Milkdrop will not close.
9. Pressing F11 several times after step 8 causes Winamp to crash.

PLESE FIX THIS!!

For now I’m lucky to have found Winamp 5.5 where toggling works perfectly, however this is a great feature and it should work. I use it to toggle visualizations on my HTPC, and it’s really convent to be able to do it from one button on my wireless keyboard or mouse.

Again PLESE PLESE FIX THIS! : )

Thanks!

ISO 8859-1 chars in Stream don’t always display

Winamp 5.541 - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Winamp Language Pack default English US
Skin: Bento v1.2
Windows XP Home + SP2 (German)
System specs Medion complete system, 1.8GHz CPU, 768 MB RAM
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200, v6.14.10.9371
Sound Card CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio, v5.12.1.644
DirectX version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Plugin (and version) affected Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 4.6

When listening to (correctly set up) audio streams from shoutCAST servers, sometimes international characters won't display, i.e. the »Ï« in »CRASHDÏET« or the »Ö« in »Blue Öyster Cult«. Instead, the title display shows »CRASHDET« or »Blue yster Cult«.

Originating files are MP3, tagged as ID3v2.3/ISO-8859-1, tested with shoutCAST/Linux v1.9.5 and sC/Win v1.9.8. The Stream Metadata contains the correct character codes (i.e., for the example above: 0xCF (Ï) and 0xD6 (Ö)), so it’s neither a problem of the broadcasting application nor one of the shoutCAST server. This can be verified by listening to the same stream with other Windows or Linux players—all of these show the correct characters in their title displays. (Even older Winamp versions, i.e. 2.78c and pre-5.3 versions.)

To verify if it might be a »Unicode conversion problem« within Winamp, I also tried to set all fonts to »Arial Unicode MS«, which didn’t change anything.

When I play the same files directly through Winamp and/or put them into the Media Library, all characters are shown as expected.

This leads me to the assumption that the problem must lie within the »Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder 4.6«, specifically the »shoutCAST Stream Title support«. Maybe something to do with the recently added internal Unicode stuff?

I feel Winamp should at least correctly support ISO 8859-1 (Latin 1).

Since this affects lots of my customers, I’d be available via phone/messenger/email for further debugging and tests. Also, I could of course supply test streams and/or files upon request. (For legal reasons, audio files would have dummy content, though.)

Nullsoft shoutCAST Source DSP malfunctions, worked in 2.x and pre-5.3 Winamps

Winamp 5.541 - clean install (+ Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0)
Winamp Language Pack default English US
Skin: Bento v1.2
Windows XP Home + SP2 (German)
System specs Medion complete system, 1.8GHz CPU, 768 MB RAM
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200, v6.14.10.9371
Sound Card CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio, v5.12.1.644
DirectX version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Plugin (and version) affected Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0

All ISO 8859-1 encoded characters are converted to »ÿ« (0xff) when streaming to a SHOUTcast server. As can be easily verified, this is not a problem with the tags (MP3 files, ID3v2.3/ISO 8859-1 encoding) nor the SHOUTcast server, and it works in older Winamp versions (i.e., 2.78c, pre-5.3 versions), using the exact same plugin.

The example above (»Ï« in »CRASHDÏET« or the »Ö« in »Blue Öyster Cult«) will convert to »CRASHDÿET« or »Blue ÿyster Cult«.

I assume this being another Winamp-internal »character conversion problem« since it only appears on recent (post-5.3) Winamp versions, and the SHOUTcast plugin hasn’t been updated for a while.

I reckon it must either a conversion or a plugin problem, since for instance the »edcast DSP v3« handles the characters perfectly (you get »CRASHDÏET« and »Blue Öyster Cult« onto the stream metadata).

I hope somebody is still responsible for the »Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP« and will update it—would be shame to leave all the small radio stations out there in the wild…

Since this affects several of my customers, I’d be available via phone/messenger/email for further debugging and tests. Also, I could of course supply test streams and/or files upon request. (For legal reasons, audio files would have dummy content, though.)

DirectX: 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

Two .dll files located in "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins" cause winamp to crash immediately upon loading. The plugins are as follows:

pmp_p4s.dll and in_wm.dll

- Followed instructions in a forum to create "Backup" folder in "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins".
- Moved all .dll plugins listed to the "Backup" folder.
- Re-incorporated plugins one at a time.
- Found that both pmp_p4s.dll and in_wm.dll cause Winamp to crash upon loading.
- No error message is encountered, and if I uninstall and re-install, problem is TEMPORARILY resolved.

Could not find any error logs, also do not receive an error message upon silent crash.

Again DLLs affected on my laptop are: in_wm.dll pmp_p4s.dll

- Other things to consider:
- I have a Rosewill 7 port powered USB hub (RHUB-310R)
- Devices currently plugged into 7 port hub:
- Sansa e250
- Fellowes 98912 5 button Cordless Optical Mouse
- Fellowes KBR0108 Wireless keyboard

Winamp 5.541 (5.5.4.2165)
Skin: Big Bento,
Windows OS, XP SP3, US
System specs: HP a1250n, AMD 3800x2, 1 GB RAM.
Video Card, Video Card Drivers version: ATI Radeon Xpress 200, version 8.501.0.0
Sound Card, Sound Card Drivers version Realtek AC 97 version 5.10.0.5910
DirectX version: 9.0c

When I use Winamp to transcode an mp3 to a lower bitrate, the lyrics I've saved to the original do not appear in the new file, though all the other tags that I'm using do.

This is with mp3encoder 1.35a. I hope that's sufficient and it helps.

[ML] Sorting files by creation date

code:
Winamp 5.541
Skin: Winamp Modern,
OS: Windows XP SP3 Dutch
System specs: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1 GB RAM
Video: ATI Radeon X800XL 256 MB, ATI Catalyst 7.6
Sound: Realtek AC 97, driver version 5.10.0.6240
DirectX: 9.0c

Subject: Media Library: bug with sorting by creation date

I'm still trying to get this bug acknowledged so I'll post it here...

Other threads about it:
forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=171654
forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=299123[list=1][*]Take a random (old) mp3 in your Media Library[*]Edit/add/remove the ID3 or any of it's info[*]Rescan your watch folders[*]Go to Audio and 'customize columns'. Add 'File time'.[*]Sort by 'File time' and notice how the old song is suddenly 'new'.[/list=1]

There is also a column Last Updated, which displays modifications like id3 tag changes. The File time column is now showing the file's modified date instead of the creation date as I guess it should.

I hope you can fix this as it has been annoying me for a long time. Thanks in advance!

in_mod crashes with some Impulse tracker files

in_mod crashes with some Impulse tracker files

Winamp 5.541 (x86) - Aug 3 2008, full
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Classic, Winamp Modern, Bentoo

OS: Windows XP sp2
Locale: Hungarian
Mother board: Abit GD8 (chipset: Intel i915-ICH6)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2.8GHZ
Memory: 1.5GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
Sound: 8201FB (ICH6) AC'97 Audio Controller (Onboard)
DirectX: 9.0c, Driver version: 6.14.11.7824

Problem + Method of reproduction:

With some Impulsetracker files, Winamp behaves oddly. I have a file (link below) that crashes (segfault) winamp MOST times, at metadata loading time. However, if it not crashes, it plays the file finely. It happens with all skins.

Windows error message:
AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.4.2165 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0011e58

Music file: ftp://ftp.modland.com/pub/modules/Im...0my%20wrath.it
(stashbox.org mirror: http://stashbox.org/365248/humor%20my%20wrath.it)

Installed plugins: http://stashbox.org/365250/my_plugin_list.zip

Hope included everything needed.
