Shoutcast2 and SC_Trans2 Documents and examples

Hopefully this will help some of you along.

http://www.streamsolutions.co.uk/sc2sctrans2/

We have added an example on how to set up Shoutcast2 and SC_Trans2 and allow DJs to connect with their Winamp encoder.

There is a PDF and then the example files.

Couple of quick things

The boxes with the gradients ... I can't read (easily) the bottom 1/3rd of them

Page 8 - "As we are connecting to a Shoutcast2 server the outprotocol is 2"

according to the docs, outprotocol can be:
1 - Shoutcast
2 - Uvox
3 - Shoutcast2 (uvox2.1)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it more correct to set outprotocol to 3?

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

updated to use outprotocol=3. Although probably no massive difference in functionality, as it for a SC2 specifically makes sense.

According to the docs, djport is not multi. I downloaded your complete sc_trans.conf file. (Since I've been forced to move to linux server prematurely) I did a "netstat -tnlp | grep -i sc_trans" and this is what I got:

code:
root@HomeServer:/SHOUTcast2/sc_trans# netstat -tnlp | grep -i sc_trans
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8502 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 9848/sc_trans
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8503 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 9848/sc_trans
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:64890 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 9848/sc_trans
root@HomeServer:/SHOUTcast2/sc_trans#

djport is shoutcast 1 compatible, i.e. two ports
djport2 is shoutcast 2 compatible, i.e. one port

"multi" means multiple "instances", nothing to do with multiple ports - that's my take on it anyway

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

name (# begins with zero not one). Note that this "multi" system is >NOT< hierarchical, and all
values beyond the default must be specified for all connections.

For example, if you want to connect to two servers on the same port you must do:

serverport_0=8080
serverport_1=8080
serverip_0=www.server1.com
serverip_1=www.server2.com

When you read the docs, it clearly implies that "multi" options are designed for configurations inside one single running instance of the application.

The DJ port (conf file option 'djport') mimics the behavior of sc_serv. It allows someone running
another copy of sc_trans (or the Winamp DSP) to connect to your sc_trans and broadcast through it, turning
your sc_trans into a relay.

[djport] "mimics" the original sc_serv which always opened two ports: a port for serving and port+1 for the source. If [djport] WAS multi then to mimic sc_serv for each specified [djport_1] and [djport_2] then it would open a total of 4 ports, not just 2.

In the sc_trans.conf file I first specified [dj_port_1=8000] then [dj_port2=8002], sc_trans responded by only opening ports 8002 and 8003. When I reversed the order in the conf file of the [djport_#] definitions, sc_trans responded by only opening ports 8000 and 8001. It did the exact same thing with [djport2_#] except it only opened 1 port (of course.)

I think in the current incarnation of sc_trans it appears that to be able to connect the SHOUTcast DSP source to the new YP2 setup it requires multiple running instances of sc_trans.

WH00T!! I was wrong! Only need one instance of sc_trans. Just one [djport] will do all encoders configured! I finally got the bastards working!

I will sort the gradients out so you can read them.

Re the outprotocol i can change that to three not that it actually matters if it is 2 or 3.

@Tink - glad you got there in the end

I realise that, and the only difference I can see is 2.1 or 2 as the uvox protocol in a couple of packets, and that the uid and password are "clear text" in uvox(2) and somehow obfuscated hex digits in shoutcast2(3)

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

I am currently building a sourcing client ( linux only ) using UVox, when done I am going to add 2.1 support. At the moment the only basis I have is a 5 year old spec document but hopefully should be done in 4/6 weeks.

At the moment the differences do not seem massive, but no doubt sc_trans is not showing all it can do so I will be caught out at some point

In the current incarnation of sc_trans the [djport] is not multi but in your example pdf it's shown as [djport_1] and [djport_2] as if they were multi. I've tested it several times on Ubuntu Studio Lucid. One [djport] seems to dj all streams/encoders per sc_trans instance. The [djpassword], [djlogin], and [djpriority] are multi.

Also, you have the title for Section 3 and the fourth word of the first paragraph in the same section for sc_trans mislabeled as sc_serv2.

Ok, I'm having no luck here,

I followed your PDF to make my .conf files but I cannot:

1. Listen to the stream
2. Broadcast over the sc_trans (although SAM might not work with it, I dunno)
3. Access any web-based stuff.

Confs are:
(sc_serv)
Quote:

password=****
adminpassword=****
uvox2sourcedebug=1
logfile=./logfile
log=1
yp2=1

(sc_trans)

djlogin_1=gamefm
djpassword_1=*****

applyreplaygain=0
calculatereplaygain=0

adminport=3000

Plus I get plenty of these:

@thinktink Exactly the same as the one provided in the link, in fact, I just downloaded it using wget (Linux), replacing the come-with one.

the configuration for sc_trans is the not the same as the DJ login is different, so the calendar file needs to change.

I downloaded the files and seem to work ok, but if you change the trans config you need to be aware ( so read the sc_trans documents ) on what else needs to be changed.

Ah ok, I see where you are coming from, so my new calender.xml looks like this:
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<eventlist>
<event type="dj">
<dj archive="0">gamefm</dj>
<calendar starttime="00:00:00" />
</event>
</eventlist>
On another note, this shows on the sc_serv even while sc_trans is running:
Quote:

Start everything then at a bash type:

code:
netstat -tnlp | grep -i sc_

Copy and paste the results here.

Ok, does that password need to be the same as something in sc_serv, or just a password?

as sc_trans is setup to use protocol_1=3, password_1 does NOT need to be set at all, uvoxauth_1 MUST be the same as the password in sc_serve config

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

Is it possible to have the shoutcast contained within a sub domain like http://server1.mydomainname.com this is the way I currently have it for 1.9.8 without any problems but now I'm being told "segmentation fault" when I try to run .sc_serv

I have used the examples above and placed in my own information, I'm logged into root SSH. Any advice?

Ok, I gave up with using sc_serv2 and backed to 1.9.8 which works quite nicely with sc_trans2 (changing the output to 1), but now I can't seem to log in as a DJ via SAM Broadcaster... just says:

Quote:

I have confirmed the password is correct, and since this is on a VPS, all ports are open, what's happening here?

hello

Today I noticed there was a new version of shoutcast and the trancecoder so I set out to go play with it before putting it on the server.

now I ran into a couple of problems, probably settings I mist somehow.

first :
I cant use the listen link on the web interface of shoutcast cause it produces a listen.pls file that has a stream in it that connects to the local loopback (127.0.0.1) rather then the actual server ip or server hostname.
How can i configure this to work properly so it produces a link that sends the client to the right server insted of itself?
(Of cause I could create a .pls file of my own on the webserver but id rather have everything working the way it should)

Second :
How do you configure the mp3 encoder in sc_trans.conf?
I have it working fine with an AAC+ encoder but I need to have an mp3 stream for our flash player (at least until flash starts supporting AAC+).
now I read in the documentation that there might be a authorisation required for the mp3 encoder activation, howver not entirely sure if this is yet the case (if so where would i get that ?).
I tryed to configure it for mp3 but once i tryed to run it it simply said that the encoder MP3 was unknown.
here is the encoder config for reference.
code:
encoder_1=mp3
bitrate_1=128000
mp3quality_1=1
mp3mode_1=1
samplerate_1=44100
channels_1=2

Overall im verry happy with the new shoutcast the realtime metadata and the dynamic buffer size fix the major problems i had with it and now i wont have to run icecast alongside it any more.

For mp3 to work, you have to buy a mp3 licence, this cost $5 and you can get it from http://gc.digitalriver.com/store/win...ctID.165220700
After you brought it, add unlockkeyname and unlockkeycode with the relevent details to your sc_trans.conf and restart sc_trans, mp3 should then work fine

Ah Thx that takes care of the second problem now to see how i can fix the first one

EDIT:

well i bought the licence and added
code:
unlockkeyname=#########
unlockkeycode=##############

at the top of the sc_trans.conf file.
but now the trancecoder doesnt work at all any more

the only part that was changed was the top of the file
here for referance:
code:
unlockkeyname=#########
unlockkeycode=####################

encoder_1=mp3
bitrate_1=128000
mp3quality_1=1
mp3mode_1=1
samplerate_1=44100
channels_1=2

instead of
code:
encoder_1=aacp
bitrate_1=32000
samplerate_1=44100
channels_1=2

Edit2:
in the log i get the folowing error message
Quote:
msg:[mp3enc] 290328344/44100/2/128000 mp3Setup Error opening mp3 encoder instance. code=2
its the only error in there but it gives the error and then starts exiting threads and shuts down again

Edit3:
I found the cause of the error. apperantly mp3quality_1=1 and mp3mode_1=1 cant be combined mp3mode_1=0 (meaning high quality resampling but constant bitrate rather then variable)

still leaves me with another question since i have this working i was wondering how you get the web admin UI to work. when i try to access the admin page of sc_trans i get the message "Resource Not Found (Weblet)". I see in de documentation that you can set a folder and an extention for the VU images but where would you put the rest of the webui files that come with the relese?
this webUI or api might allow me to give dj's individual logins rather then having them share a single login.
perhaps i might even construct i way of linking the accaount of the dj's on our website with sc_trans, but of cause i more testing is needed
Im glad some one took the time to document this partly, still it seems to me there are still a number things unclear or missing in the documentation at this time.

still this is a beta and it looks verry promising, I hope to be implementing a none beta version soon.

The WebUI is not a WebUI as such... bascally there are commands you can send to that port to control sc_trans, like nextsong.
You do this (using the nextsong example) by going http://adminusername:adminpassword@host:adminport/nextsong - that will result in a kind "OK" from the browser and a SIGWINCH (Skip song) to the sc_trans.

Not to be a troll or rude, but i think that you i.e. the shoutcast people/developers should post on the shoutcast blog and in the broadcast tools to tell people that they need to buy a license key to broadcast. I've already got one myself, but i think it's a bit unfair and deceptive not to mention it anywhere but in this or another thread and not on the main site where everyone and their brother is gonna download the files and try to run them not knowing they need one (license key.)

You actually make a valid point. We'll get right on it! Thanks for pointing that out!

We have added an example on how to set up Shoutcast2 and SC_Trans2 and allow DJs to connect with their Winamp encoder.

There is a PDF and then the example files.

Brilliant work!!! Thanks so much. Im sure everyone will find this helpful...

Multi options begin with zero not one. That could be the source of some of the problems people are having.

not starting with Zero doesnt seem to cause problems i tryed it both ways however it is advisable to always start with Zero just because thats how computers work especialy when combining shoutcast2 and the transcoder2 saves you a bunch of trouble when you do run into a problem simply cause related configurations in both files would use the same number.

people running onto problems should also check the logs and when they post a question post or link the log or discribe what exactly you are doing and expecting to happen "it doesnt work" is of little help cause you simply cant tel whats isnt working or why its not working.
