HTC Evo is the best phone I've ever used so far. Could be better phones out soon though.

I've been using a HTC Hero for the past 19 months, has been a good phone and I quited the Sense UI interface but is old now and struggling on 2.1 so I've just ordered a Sony Xperia Arc, should be picking up in a day or two. I like the iPhone and you can't fault the quality of the screen but for me the monthly cost for quite an average contract allowance puts me off. I'm currently in thr process of converting all my music from iTunes to Winamp in readyness for the Arc... bloody album art is the bane of my life!

My Winamp has no problems playing music I've downloaded in iTunes (m4a (AAC)). They're also DRM free, and the artwork shows up in Winamp. Find an AAC plugin for winamp and you have no need to convert them.

I read some negative reviews on the Evo Shift. A newer Evo should be out this summer I think. 3D screen and camera recording with dual core processor...

I use a Droid X daily. I use it for email, ssh, rdp, web surfing, dns queries, flashlight, camera, etc. It's great

+1 for the Xperia range.

I use a x10 mini myself, love it, although the Xperia arc has caught my eye, might test drive one of them before long.

Sony do a lot of good work with their phones, it's about the only thing Sony based I will touch to be honest, I find their other products, well.... lacking in something...build quality mainly....

What qualifies has smartphone use?

I've got citrix loaded on mine so I can control analytical instruments at work while I am not in front of them. I've got my work's vpn setup on my iphone so I can see what the instruments are doing when i am not at work and restart them.

I've got vnc installed on my phone so I can get at my desktop at work while I am not infront of it.

I use Windows rdp on my iphone so I can reconfigure our chromatography data server if it decides to take a barf.

Oh, I also use it to check my email at work via our exchange servers, though we do have a web portal for that, which I refuse to use.

Android is a bastard. If you want smart, buy an Iphone. The "open" jury rigged Android OS is junk, flotsam, silage, bilge and one of Googles failures.

I say this because I am a developer. Basing a phone on Java is idiotic.

I challenge that, I've had an android phone since 1.6 was the business, and they have never let me down, not to mention the ludicrously good prices they come at these days

I use my Droid constantly. I don't have one complaint, aside from the occasional poorly written application.

droid x, no contest.

i think i made my mom regret her iphone 4 when she could finally play around with both my new one and her new one and realized just how limited the iphone 4 was in comparison, mission accomplished.

also, few mobile phone manufacturers really make respectable phones in my opinion, like.... nokia for example, they for one manufacture bottom of the barrel SHIT even their nicer phones aren't that great, if you want one for a penny though.... fuck it, still don't go nokia.

HTC are decent, they don't seem very well put together for me personally and use way too much plastic and just feel too light and willing to give way ever so slightly in the hand.

limited experience with samsung ones, it was semi-competent but totally gimmick driven in retrospect.

I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

My prefferences go like this:

droid phone > WPhone7 > iPhone > Blackberry > Nokia (symbian)

I currently have Samsung 551 which was really cheap, and I love it for additionaly physical qwerty keypad.
