fake listeners on the YP again?

we recently brought our station back to shoutcast after upgrading everything to V2. due to our size, this immediately put us at the top of the list for certain keywords

Within a day or two, another (pre existing) station has climbed to double our size. If you visit their DNAS v2, you see several hundred listeners, but only 15 or so unique (they run only one DNAS)

Why does the current generation of YP use the listener count, instead of how DNASv1/YP used to do via the unique IP addresses connected? Wont this way just make it rife for people to fake listeners and game the system? I thought this was mostly sorted out years ago.
