iPod Nano (redux)

Okay.

So. Like I said in the other thread, I got an iPod nano (3rd gen) in a drawing at work.

My problem is that I have spent more time trying to make it work like it's supposed to than actually using it.

I've reset\restored it countless times now. It seems like everytime I unplug it from my computer (and yes, I am safely removing it) the music database is corrupted. I also tried restoring it in disk mode, and I checked the diagnostic mode and all the tests pass.

And even if I do manage to get music on it, it doesn't play (or will play part of a song then skip to another).

Any ideas? I've tried everything I can find.

Return it and get a(n) [Archos / Cowon / Creative / Samsung / SanDisk / Zune / anything that doesn't suck] player instead. Sorry that I'm not helping much.

This is a sig of some nature.

Well.

After some reading I thought it might have been the VBR bug. So I converted a few tracks to CBR and tried with no luck. So I converted a few songs to AAC (with iTunes) and even these songs play a bit and skip to the next song (at least some do, it seems to be random).

Is there an "intro" function on an iPod? If so, that may explain the playing a bit and going to the next song.

That was also my first thought, but some songs would play fine all the way through (at first, now I'm lucky if it even tries to play the song).

I think the drive is failing.

nano's use a flash drive so it unlikely that the drive is failing. I have you updated to the latest firmware?

consulting with google garnered the following

I would also make sure the computer is not a factor. So if you have a friend that has an ipod see if he'll let you use his set up to load a few songs or if there is an apple store in the area bring it there.

Funny thing. I reinstalled iTunes, now everything is fine -.-

The one thing I didn't think would make a difference.

Edit:

Or not. -.-

After some further testing, I'm pretty sure the flash drive is fucked.

I formatted it with windows (fat32) and put some files on it. Safely disconnected it, and reconnected it. Windows told me the drive wasn't formatted.

Any ideas, or should I take it back?

Got it exchanged finally. Ended up with an 8gb (for no extra charge) because they were out of 4gbs.
