    Help with iTunes!

I have a 4G 20gb iPod, and my sister has an iPod mini. because she's evil, and we only have one home comp, she has iTunes. now, iTunes hates it when other programs try to use iPods, and sure enough, i can't write to or read from my iPod with anything but iTunes. mlipod will detect the ipod, and all the playlists, but swears up and down that it's a blank ipod. any ideas on how to shut up itunes w/o uninstalling it?

    WinXP Pro, 4th Gen 20gb iPod w/USB, mlipod 1.1, iTunes 4.6

It certainly is the most annoying thing in the world; narrow-minded, stubborn siblings with whom you have to share anything.

Format your own iPod with ml_ipod and refill it that way. Make sure it is unplugged every time your sister uses ickyTunes with her Mini.

Never do anything to your sweetie in iTunes, and it should stay clear of any hostile database infections. I'm not sure, but I think it will work.

alright. in order to let winamp access the ipod, you must format it with the install disk, disable automatic updating in itunes, then reformat it with winamp. i've figured that out. sadly, winamp STILL has a blank page in the media library when i plug it in, sorta like that ss that i posted. even so, i can still sync the entire library, but winamp crashes with an ml_ipod.dll debug message if i try and sync playlists, even in experimental mode. any ideas?

i didnt know you had to format with the disk, i just thought you had to go into prefs and hit format(which deletes your song databse and all your songs, and then creates a new "untainted by itunes" database
There is no reset button on life... but the graphics kick ass

First of all, you have to make sure iTunes won't pop up when you connect the pod. I think that can be disabled, but don't know what your sister will say about it tho.

And yes, reformatting through ml_ipod, as I said, will probably solve the problem.

Alright. Here is the current state of things:
              • The iPod works when disconnected, but does not play all of my music
              • My copy of iTunes also does not play those specific songs (the reason i moved to Winamp)
              • The QT engine itself has an unknown flaw which hates these specific mp3s
              • ephPod has no problems loading and unloading the iPod
              • mlipod still refuses to draw anything but a blank window (this is, I think, iTunes' iPod driver's fault)
              • mlipod also can sync the entire library at a time, but crashes when I try to sync individual playlists

Add that all up and I get the following:

I can only sync my iPod as I intended using ephPod! Winamp doesn't have a working GUI and iTunes doesn't acknowledge over 2 gigs of my music!

my ss is above...still looks like that...if anyone wants a copy of one of these mp3s that doesn't play in QT, just post for it...

I'd just like to say that I have just tried running mlipod with iTunes uninstalled, and there is NO difference in behavior whatsoever...

why not convincing your sister also to work with winamp rather than itunes. it is much better... and in the time you have spend trying to solve this issue you might have already convinced her?

earlier, i uninstalled itunes, rebooted, formatted my ipod using mlipod, and then looked to see what had changed. nothing had changed, except itunes was no longer on my comp...idunno why it's not working right...

what sort of file (e.g. mp3, ogg) are you trying to send to the ipod?
can you play this songs in winamp?

that last one was almost funny, but not quite...i've been using 1.1 for all this, using the pre-built at sf.net...if there's another one i'm supposed to use instead, let me know...but that's 1.1...

are you sure? The Config button is in a different position in 1.1

[edit: it could be 1.01. Get the version off winamp.com/plugins ]
