Cd-r Fails To Burn

I am using winamp 5.35 pro. When burning to cd-r I get the following error message Library error: Drive reported a reading error, Drive error : incompatible medium installed. The error occurs at about 8% of the burning process.

winamp successfully burns to cd-rw
other software(nero) successfully burns to the drive.
winamp successfully burns to a usb drive
I have tried different cd manufacturers

The drive is Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k06rs
xp professional with sp2
gateway laptop with intel pentium 1500 mhz

I've spent hours on this. If you can just point me in a direction to go I would appreciate it. Thx

Try Test Mode when you try to burn a CD-R. That will tell you if there is something funny going on.
I used only CD-Rs successfully with any other software. But post-5.24 Winamp gave me fits. It would burn ok, but just 5-20 sec. segments. I, never found out the reason for the problem, but I was able to away it by changing my preferences to allow other instances of Winamp, and installed 5.35 in another folder. It worked. It may not be your problem, but Test Mode will not waste your CDs. Cheap yes, but still wasteful.

Test mode burned successfully. Reinstalled software. No 3rd party plugins. No other applications running
