Need Clarification

I just recently (3 days ago) got into coding for Winamp and have read up to 2.4 on the 81 page Winamp tut and just want to make sure that my code so far is correct and then a small question about the code. This is what I have for my skin.xml atm :

<?xml version"1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

<WinampAbstractionLayer version="0.8">
<skininfo>
<version>1.0</version>
<name>Caliber Alpha Skin</name>
<comment>Created by Thatamos and silikon90 for the official Half Life 2 Modification :

Caliber</comment>
<author>Paul Miller "aka" Thatamos and David Moore "aka" silikon90</author>
<email>Thatamos@hotmail.com</email>
<homepage>www.calibermod.com</homepage>
<screenshot>screenshot.png</screenshot>
</skininfo>
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@xml/eq.xml"/>
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@/thinger.xml"/>
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@/pledit.xml"/>
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@/player-elements.xml"/>
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@/pledit-normal-group.xml">
<include file="@DEFAULTSKINPATH@/video.xml"/>
<include file="xml/player.xml"/>
</WinampAbstractionLayer>

Now, for <include file>, I know what pledit,player-elements, and video is. But I'm still very fuzzy on the other. And the snippet of code before that I do not know very much of either. So I need some clarification. Could someone help me out?

Confused!!

I JUST started learning xml with a good history with html, so xml isn't that hard (easier than html actually, and cooler ^_^) and have been reading that 81 flipn' page tutorial. Well, I've started on a skin.xml and I'm not sure if I'm correct or not. I'm at 2.4 on the tut so I've got a lot to digest. Will someone tell me if I'm steering all my efforts in the right direction?

Skin.xml

<?xml version"1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

<WinampAbstractionLayer version="0.8">
<skininfo>
<version>1.0</version>
<name>Caliber Alpha Skin</name>

<email>Thatamos@hotmail.com</email>
<homepage>www.calibermod.com</homepage>
<screenshot>screenshot.png</screenshot>
</skininfo>
<include file="xml/eq.xml"/>
<include file="/thinger.xml"/>
<include file="/pledit.xml"/>
<include file="/player-elements.xml"/>
<include file="/pledit-normal-group.xml">
<include file="/video.xml"/>
<include file="xml/player.xml"/>
</WinampAbstractionLayer>

Also, whats the whole deal with Wasabi. I've never heard of it before and is it still possible to create the skin without it?

<WinampAbstractionLayer version="1.2">

Best way to test your code is to make some graphics and do a lil test skin. If you're not into doing graphics, then the tutorial at Frisbee Monkey has some to use.

I know nothing about WASABI so somone else more experiance will have to explain. Though Wasabi is also a Japanese sauce.

knew the sauce, good stuff. But I've never herad of wasabi other than that before in my life, so I'm just confused that it might be confined to wasabi and nothing else. thanks for the slight code update. and as for the graphics, I have them all ready and such, I just wanted to know what could be done to make constant checks and a few coding definitions I never could figure out

If you go "new" with version="1.2", make it "<WasabiXML version="1.2"> then, instead of WinampAbstractionLayer.
(Looks better if you ask me)

I don't exactly know what wasabi is, but I thought it's something winamp is built on. You don't need to pay any attention to it with skinning. Sometimes, you'll see wasabi objects used, like "<Wasabi:slider .../>". Those are sliders that winamp automatically skins in a standard way. (The style of the winamp3 skin if you haven't overwritten it yet.) You will probably never need them.

WASABI was the name for the code base that Winamp3 was originally built on, subsequent development of Winamp5 used WASABI in the gen_ff.dll plugin.

Read all about WASABI here..

No but it hasn't really changed. Maybe some things were added, I don't know, but I've never needed them.

I decided to test my skin so far and winamp not only said I was using an older version, but there was a syntax error in line 1. Here's my code for my skin.xml (I'm assuming that's what it was talking about, but I found no error)

--------------------------------------------------------------
<?xml version"1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

<WasabiXML version="1.2">
<skininfo>
<version>1.0</version>
<name>Caliber Alpha Skin</name>

<email>Thatamos@hotmail.com</email>
<homepage>www.calibermod.com</homepage>
<screenshot>screenshot.png</screenshot>
</skininfo>
<include file="xml/eq.xml"/>
<include file="xml/thinger.xml"/>
<include file="xml/pledit.xml"/>
<include file="xml/player-elements.xml"/>
<include file="xml/pledit-normal-group.xml">
<include file="xml/video.xml"/>
<include file="xml/player.xml"/>
</WasabiXML>
------------------------------------------------------------

Can someone tell me what is wrong with my code?

Should be
<include file="xml/pledit-normal-group.xml"/>
