Winamp 5.03 Released

I Found this on Deviantart and searched here to see if it was post and it was not.

http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/...mp503_full.exe FULL

http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/...mp503_lite.exe LITE

Nullsoft have quietly released an update to their ubiquitous media player; Winamp 5.03 is here. This release focuses on stability, cosmetic and usability enhancements, as well as some experimental additions to the feature set.

Winamp3 was seen by many in the community as a failure. While it did have freeform skinning, it was felt that stability and efficiency were not up to Winamp 2.x’s standards. So the Nullsoft team went about creating a new media player, one which would incorporate the best of both platforms into one package. Winamp 5 is the culmination of Nullsoft’s of those efforts. Boasting support for a wide array of video and audio formats including MP3, OGG, WMA, and lesser-known formats, Winamp 5 is all you need.

Changes since Winamp 5.02
Made MP4 AAC the new default ripping encoder
Fixed a crash bug when playing some AVI files in in_dshow
Added multimedia keyboard keys in global hotkeys default configuration
Added "Manual playlist advance" in Repeat button popup menu in Classic mode
Improvements in MP3 encoder configuration
Made the tabs in the preferences XP correctly themed under Windows XP
Revamped the Media Library preferences a bit
New experimental WMA9 input plugin
gen_jumpex updates from DrO
Added "Nuke library" action in Media Library
More upside down videos fixes
Fixed crash if a plugin generated a pledit wm_windowposchanged on shutdown
Fixed crash exploit in in_mod
Fixed various crashes in in_midi when playing invalid files
Made in_midi store its settings in winamp.ini instead of the registry
Fixed error during installation on computers with chinese/oriental regional settings
Removed AOD from installer
Added Shift-R to toggle manual playlist advance
Updated VP6 video decoder to latest VP6.2 code
Fixed crash when launching winamp with very long filenames from explorer
Made registration dialog to appear in Explorer's taskbar when installing pro verion
Fixed pledit/video windows showing up at startup when minimized

Months after it's official launch, Winamp 5 has proven itself to be a stable, feature-rich media player. What direction the suite will take after Justin Frankel's departure is a question that can only be answered in updates such as this. Winamp 5 (2+3, get it?) also comes in a Pro version which features mp3 ripping/encoding and unrestricted CD burning (up to 48x) for $14.95.

Heh, that's ok. I downloaded Winamp 5.03 beta5 fifteen minutes before rc1 was released to the testers.

AOL On Desktop. The little icon/shortcut drop that sends you to the aol installer on the web. Most people that are downloading Winamp will already have an internet connection, so it's kinda pointless. I don't know what the official reason it got removed is, but (for me personally) it doesn't matter why it's gone, I'm just happy it is so I can stop explaining what it is and why Winamp has it in the first place.

I wouldn't download 5.03 yet. Some bugs are being found that have to be fixed before final release.

Yep. If you've already gotten it, here are two known bugs that are due to be fixed(there may be more):

1. The new Docked Toolbar submenu doesn't completely work with Ctrl+Right-clicking on a window. Selecting something from the submenu may cause a Winamp crash.

2. Repeat button in freeform skins other than Winamp Modern will not toggle "repeat all" (expected behavior), but will toggle "repeat track".

i dont seem to have a problem with #1, but when i play with my repeat button in a non official WA skin it does have a tendancy to mess up (not crash, just always set to repeat track even if i turn it off)

but other than that i think its pretty safe for using

cool, but doesn't it take out missing files when scanning the folders and update things? (not being paranoid just not exactly seeing the purpose if you have WA rescan the library folder(s) )

Only if you have it set to continue monitoring the folder(s). I move back and forth between several networks throughout the day and not all my mp3s are available in any one location. So I have imported all the various directories, and set seperate views for each computer I can connect to. I don't want Winamp to monitor the folders because it would constantly be adding and removing stuff, depending on where I was connecting from. Of course, I also don't plan on nuking the lib any time soon, but if I got one big HD and started to keep all my music on it, I might.
