Very nice. My mom (!) just bought a $600 laptop, and I'm amazed at how nice of a machine it is.

I think a lot of it is Vista's pre-loading technology.

I agree. That catch with that is, as people say, "it's a memory hog" - but hey, memory's cheap. I got an extra GB above the standard (for a total of 2GB). I can open and run many apps at once without a slow-down, and still feel the benefit of pre-loading throughout.

With plenty of memory in this machine, I'm lovin' it. (Plus the fact that it almost fits in my pocket.)

That's just HD speed right? Do you have one of those Raptor drives or something?

Safari 3.0.2 is out and claims to fix the issues people were having with pages without text.

The machine is a Dell XPS m1210 w/ 100GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive. Brand unknown. I've tested it on other criteria as well, and it's a frikkin' fast drive.

Here's a couple of Javascript benchmarks which are quite interesting. Can't speak for the test methodology though.

IE7 isn't very fast on a cold start either (In fact, Safari is faster). But unlike IE, Safari resizes itself when you restore it from the taskbar.

Just my $.02 worth...
