I love u Wimap guys, even if ur part of AOL

Well the rumors are still flying around like a bunch of birds smacked with a broom, with AOL going down the perverbial toilet of bankruptcy, what is gonna happen to our beloved Winamp? Will it fade away into the sunset like a cliche ending of a bad sitcom, or will it become corrupt and over exploted like AIM? Well this is one wimamp fanatic whose truly doesnt care if u are part of the evil AOL empire. The whole point of this thread is to tell the winamp team and those involved in the winamp project - ur totally awsome. Another case of the super ginormous microsoft being shown that they can be outdone so easily. Winamp is miles ahead of Windows media in all its crappy windowness. Under windows, linux, whatever little can out do winamp. You guys totally kick ass, thax for making our near mandatory usage of windows bearable.

Thanks for the coherent thoughts -- We might take it a little more seriously if you'd use proper particles when referring to us.

Most of the guys you're talking about aren't here anymore. The Winamp development team has been decimated pretty thoroughly.

The guy tries to say something nice and all anyone can do is make fun of his grammar? Who cares how well its typed? It's a fucking compliment. Can someone please explain the logic that led to jumping down his throat instead of just saying 'thank you'?

I believe it was meant in a grammatical sense. I'm not sure, but I think she may have meant participle.

He could've sent it directly to Winamp via e-mail or phone instead of posting it here. And as said in other topics, Winamp wont be gone for ages.

Her flame, actually, and a particle is "a function word that can be used in English to form phrasal verbs". For example, in the phrase I told you "You should go blow up a bank!", "up" is a particle.

[edit]This isn't an exactly proper definition for "particle". Check onelook.[/edit]

That one's quite good, but I like to allow people to pursue many sources.

[edit]Not to say your link isn't appreciated, though, sometimes it's a pain to go through several sources to find a good one.[/edit]

Agreed in general, but in this case irrelevant. As far as I can gather, WR used the term 'particle' in its linguistic sense. Little use in giving other meanings as well. Who cares it's also A small piece of a consecrated host? Or for that matter: In physics, a minute part of a body, an aggregation or collection of which constitutes the whole body or mass. The word is sometimes used in the same sense as atom, in the ancient Epicurean philosophy, and corpuscle in the latter. In this sense, particles are the elements or constituent parts of bodies.
By flooding people with information, you'll only confuse them and therefore won't make the point you want to make.

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

Yes, but there are several sources in the grammatical sense. See my edit above.

On a side note: weird that the site I linked to is listed under Art. Linguistics doesn't sound like art to me. Oh well...

As far as it concerns the off-topicness: that's quite common around here. Get used to it
I do agree on the 'flaming' part though. I don't get it either. For some reason people on this forum tend to attack new members instantly. Sometimes with a good reason (spamming, being annoying), but in this case I don't see why. Thanks for the compliment (though I didn't make Winamp myself ), and I hope you stay around. Don't let them get you.

If you want to read up on Winamp some nice articles to start:
