A question for the gun enthusiasts

Which among the following is your favourite assault rifles:

1. AK47 and it's variants

2. M16 series

If you have another rifle in mind, feel free to explain why.

It's not a rifle per se, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the P-90...

M16's are easier to find and cheaper to fill with ammo.

I really don't know much about assault rifles, but I do hunt with:

1959 12-gauge Richland (Italian) side-by-side double-barrell, double-trigger shotgun,

early 1990's model Marlin 30-06 (deer rifle),

.22 long rifle (I don't remember age or year, but even though it's beat to hell, it's accurate at long distances and can shoot a bucket of hundreds of bullets for around $10)

There's a .22 long pistol sitting around here somewhere but it's aim really sux - haven't shot it in years. Anyone wanna buy it?

The shotgun is quite a beautiful piece, the other hunting guns are rather mundaine, but good. The pistol is more or less a waste of wood and metal. I keep the shotgun loaded (but with safety on) and within easy reach of our (fiancee and my) bed.

I got to play with the type 97 pistol a while back. It's a tack driver, that's for sure. You really don't want to take the compensator off though. With the compensator on, can you say LOUD!.

I guess the choice between an MAK-90 or a AR-15 would depend on whether you wanted to do precision shooting. The AK/MAK rifle is probably the most popular. It's cheap. It shoots a really big bullet and it almost never jams.

AR style weapons can be precision shooting machines. For your general "blast em" rifle it's hard to argue with AKs.

For the house, use a pump action 12 guage shotgun. Cocking it will usually scare intruders with no shots fired. Plus you won't shoot holes in the neighbors house.

Assault rifle bullets and many pistol bullets are preposterous to fire as home defense weapons.

Ithaca M37 riot shotguns are a good choice.

I could be wrong, but I heard that the M16s are highly unreliable - if you fire them continuously for a long period of time, they get jammed easily & they have to be cleaned very often during battle. Is that true?

If you want a good "plinking" rifle you could do worst than a Mini-14. If you can find a 1982 vintage "Ranch rifle" that would be mo betta. If you get a modern one, then get the stainless steel. It's a better rifle.

Lots of aftermarket toys. Shoots regular 5.56 REM bullets. Reliable, reasonably accurate.

Not fast enough. While you're setting up on the ground - and before you can flip open the lens caps on your scope - you'll be wrapped in a net, burned, poisoned and frozen. Not to mention shot 300 times.

And portability on that thing would suck. I can put mine into a carry-on and no one would ever know.

My favorites:

1.+: Great for close range combats and very powerfull.
-: Only 7 bullets per load and really bad for far combats.


2.+:Great for close and far range combats, really fast shot rate, very good aim.
-:There is no bad side to this weapon, it is considered the best weapon for the moment.


3.+:great for indoor combats like buildings, fast shot rate.
-:really bad for far range combat.

You can get it on the train level in a crate in the first carraige. But it's only there on Agent difficulty. The cheat for the Train level is on 00 difficulty and the time limit is under 2 minutes 30 seconds, I believe. It took me about two days of playing that level almost constantly to get that!

Military Police System, out of Piney Flats, Tennessee, has come out with a unique select-fire 12-gauge combat/tactical shotgun called the "Auto Assault 12 Automatic Shotgun", or "AA12 Automatic Shotgun". The full-auto-only Auto Assault 12 Automatic Shotgun fires at a relatively slow rate of 300 rpm (rounds-per-minute) and employs the "Constant-Recoil" principle, which is a recoil attenuation/mitigation system that was first invented and patented for utilization in a gas-operated weapon by legendary small arms designer/developer L. James Sullivan for the Ultimax 100 LMG (Light Machine Gun), back in the late 1970's. "Constant-Recoil" allows a lightweight gun to outhit a heavier gun on full-auto.

Since it utilizes "Constant-Recoil", the bolt group of the AA12 Automatic Shotgun never impacts the rear of the receiver, but rather runs out on the long 2-stage recoil/operating spring. This action eliminates the majority of felt-recoil, and thus greatly enhances controllability on full-auto. The result is more hits on target.


The Auto Assault 12 (AA-12) Automatic Shotgun is manufactured from "corrosion resistant, high impact, heat-treated stainless steels and high-impact plastics". Supposedly, the Auto Assault 12 shotgun requires no lubrication (unconfirmed/unverified). Rounds are fed from an 8-round box magazine, 20-round drum mag, or 32-round drum mag. That's a lot of 12-gauge firepower in a fully controllable package. Since the AA-12 shotgun fires at the relatively slow rate of 300 rpm, there's no need for a semi-auto setting on the AA-12's selector switch. Any skilled operator can easily control the round output via trigger control, including singe shots and double taps. In other words, the operator's trigger finger IS the selector switch. The Auto Assault 12 (AA12) Automatic Shotgun also features a quick-change barrel system. Barrel lengths are from 13" to 18".

That shotgun's pretty frikkin' cool.

They describe 300rpm as "relatively slow" - which is the case compared to standard automatic rifles - but for a 12-gauge shotgun that seems plenty fast to me. It's 5 rounds per second. Count that off in your head and remember that those are 12-gauge rounds going out at that speed rather than an easier-to-fire-quickly .223 caliber bullet.

It's also still a relatively short-ranged weapon - intended for "urban warfare applications" - but I wonder if those funky "finned" rounds are more accurate out to a longer range than standard single-lead 12-gauge shells? (I didn't see range statistics on the FRAG-12 in the article.) I know barrel length is very important for range accuracy too, but still...

They did have that problem when they were first released into service during the Vietnam War, but I don't think modern-day M16s have that problem anymore...

As far as M16s go, I think I'd rather have it's more compact brother, the M4...If you're gonna be carrying an assult rifle as big as an M16, you might as well tote something like a fuckin' PSG-1 around...

And on note of my M4, I'll take an attachable M203 grenade launcher to go, thank you...

By the time you pulled the bolt back on an autoloader, pieces of you would be questioning your misdeed.

Use .177 copper BB in a 3" mag in anything with a negative choke. At 10 feet, you will blow a 3 ft wide hole through your adversary and the house.

If wearing body armor, it would stuff him thru the hole in the house.

One of the M-16's predecessors - the M-14 - had such problems. The M-16 is a much better weapon.

Those of you asking about slugs and other single-item "bullets" in a shotgun:

Four suggested ways to increase range and accuracy:

1.) Have a long barrell with no choke (chokes are for shot (multiple b.b.'s) and will really mess up the aim of a slug.

2.) Have rifling in the barrel (spiral shaped ridges meant to spin the bullet to create the gyroscope effect for better accuracy) - shotguns with this kind of barrel are called 'slug guns'.

3.) rifling on the slug itself (slight spiral shaped ridges on the outside of the slug's cylinder shape).

4.) "fling-out" fins that open when the slug leaves the barrel (guides the slug to target). (very expensive, usually only used to guide slugs that carry poisons or explosives, or both)

HCl is not really it you know. Just don't get it in your eyes, but if you'd (briefly) put your hand in a bucket filled with it, nothing would happen.
