I don't give a damn what any critic says about anything. I make my own decisions.

Anybody who listens to any media, fashion, food, or any other kind of critic is simply incapable of making their own choices.

You got dat right!
![]() However, you gotta make yer own informed decisions about things, good or bad. You can listen to the critics if you want, but ultimately, you must make your own choices. |

I get opinions about movies before I see it, but not from critiques but from friends so I can make sure that none of the storyline is given away.
I have friends with very similar movie tastes which make it very likely that if they liked a movie I'll like it as well - with exceptions of course. Apart from that, everytime I hear people voicing strongly against a movie, I'll go see it anyway to make up my own mind. Now you probably ask yourself why I need others to decide which movie to go to? There are tons out there and one movie ticket is $16 over here. Yes, that makes you think twice about which movie to see and makes you get information beforehand ![]() I recommend the downfall by the way although the critics of the NY Times supposedly said it was very bad. I really liked that movie and I'd love for it to get the Academy award for the best foreign movie. Mia |

At least we're back on the suject.
The last two movies I saw were 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1997 version) on SciFi, and Hellboy yet again. I love that movie. BTW, in the book, wasn't the Nautilaus attacked by a humongus squid, not a humongus manta ray? |

Also, when you own a movie on DVD, you can watch it over and over w/o having to pay the ticket price every time; and you also have it in your collection long after it's no longer in the movie theaters. And what about special editions, extended cuts, and director's cuts...Making Of's, outtakes, commentaries, etc. Stuff that's not shown in theathers. A good example of an extended trilogy is LOTR. I also just like to watch movies in the comfort of my home. |

It's not that I don't own any DVD's, I sometimes buy one - but only if I really liked the movie and want to watch it over and over again if you mentioned. But in order to find out if I like a movie, I need to watch it first and not buy the DVD (with shipping and handling being $8 if I want to have it in about 2 weeks plus not to mention taxes and import fees from amazon.com) which is way more expensive.
When I am certain that I will enjoy a movie I will go with my friends and see it in theaters, if I'm not sure I'll rent it on DVD and watch it at home on my small TV, if I really like a movie after seeing it, I might get the DVD (but I only own about 15 altogether) ![]() I don't care about commentaries and making of's. They ruin most of the movies for me. I wish I had never read an overanalytical essay about Donnie Darko ![]() Saw Constantine tonight, it was better than I expected it to be and made me have a cigarette craving ![]() ![]() Mia |

Of course, everybody should do what they like best, I'm all for Hedonism
![]() By the way, a few posts up there I posted about the downfall, now I heard that it only came out in 2 movie theaters across the US yet - so I guess not many people will get to see it ![]() Mia |
