I think I need new broadcasting software. Any suggestions?
Right now I am loading all my songs into a playlist in Winamp and broadcasting using my own server. I would like to be able to do live broadcasts, interviews, etc. like a regular radio station. It doesn't seem like I can do this with Winamp, so I guess I need a new program. Does anybody out there have any suggestions what I should be using and why you think it is better than others?

You could invest in the following - depending on your geographical location, they shouldn't be too dear:
An external soundcard (Creative?); An external mixer; Decent mic; CDs or some storage medium (high-GB media player - those 1 GB things don't store much - about two or three complete Now That's What I Call Musics and it's full!). Select Soundcard Input on your Shoutcast DSP. You could connect your laptop to a channel on the mixer and stream music from that. Check out my station - whilst I play my music mixed from Ots Audio turntables - if they ever find out I'm using the free version for broadcasting, they'll skin me alive - but, as they refused to accept payment, it's their own fault - I made a bona fide offer, but it was rejected - I do live bits to mic - but they aren't very good. Type in Arty's Party in the search menu. http://artysparty.youstream.fm http://arthurvasey.listen2myradio.com Can't display as hyperlink - just says URL submitted by user. Arthur Leslie Vasey |

Zararadio for your automation, mixer, microphone, etc. And use the sound card input setting of Winamp for the encoder.
Your mileage may vary! |

SAM gets the nod here too. There's a small learning curve, but it really does rock once you get the hang of it.

Well since we are going for the for pay stuff... BSI Simian works pretty well, and their new Op X software should probably be even better.
Though Spacial Audio's SAM Broadcaster is a lot cheaper and includes a really nice stream encoder (same as the Simple Cast encoder that I have), and probably just as good as the BSI products for what you are trying to do. I mentioned Zara because last time I checked it is still free. All of these automation applications are going to require you to learn a different way of doing things. Your mileage may vary! |

We use SAM and Nicecast for live broadcast, and Centova Cast to manage our automated library.
