What did you acquire that you wish you would have had a lot earlier?

Topic says it all, mostly at least:

"What did you acquire that you wish you would have had a lot earlier?"

By this, I mean:

What did you finally get that you could have gotten in the past but didn't because of some form of procrastination?

For example, I have a new set of bed mattresses that I love, which replace old, shitty mattresses that were more than 3 decades old. The old ones made me wake up in a way where I didn't feel rested at all, and with the new ones, I wake up very well rested and recharged. I could have afforded to make the switch earlier, but I didn't, either because I was too cheap, or because I was too lazy to research and choose, or because I didn't realize how much a difference it would make until after the switch.

What have you picked up that you wished you would have picked up earlier?

Don't forget to live before you die.

Remind me in the summer.

That stuff is very hard to get where I live during the school year, but during the summers, I live within reasonable driving distance to the Smucker's headquarters store. Razzinno lives much, much closer yet, but I haven't seen him online in a while.

I could probably mail order it in the UK, I usually buy several jars when we have our yearly drive over to a huge shopping outlet place to do our 'xmas shopping expedition'. There is a place there that imports it.

A couple of hundred miles drive for a jar of peanut butter however is considered extreme, so always have to tie it into another shopping jaunt.

What really narks me is that there used to be a UK peanut butter maker that did something similar a few years ago, could buy it in any supermarket, but then it vanished without trace, guess there is no market for it in the UK, for shame....

It's kinda like black & tans. Sometimes it's best to make them yourself, but, sometimes the brewery has the best mix. In this case, for Mr Jones at least, the premix is better, and it has some novelty too.

I dunno if that address will work out, but I'll tell her to send it to Number 3 in the UK

You know, this is actually quite funny. The availability of this product to us in the US is very similar to the availability of, say, golden syrup or flapjacks are to you folks in the UK ... which, from the sounds of it, I like just about as much as you like that peanut butter and jelly from Smuckers.

There are zero distributors of flapjacks in the US; there is one distributer of lyle's golden syrup in the US (somewhere arroundthe New England region if I remember correctly). I've ordered golden syrup from them, but the problem is finding a good flapjack recipe ...

Maybe we ought to barter. Luckily I live at .... Number 6 in the US

In all seriousness, I will ask her about UK distribution when I speak with her again ...

God, we are overun by flapjacks here, everywhere you turn!

As many flavours / types as you can eat!

Something is wrong with the world when you can't get a flapjack / peanut butter style item in your local store.

They are mikedb (and as you have figured out, this English flapjack is not the pancake flapjack everyone is accustomed to). I've looked for them over in Canada, and flapjacks don't exist there either, though I was really hoping they would seeing as you Canadians are a lot more European/worldly than us Americans. You do, however, at least have golden syrup readily available to you --- at least in the Quebec/Montreal area.

Many, many years ago I spent some time (four to five months) in Cheltenham in the UK. There was a pastry shoppe there (don't remember the name) that I would always go to every morning and pickup a flapjack. Needless to say, after four to five months, I got quite addicted. Also, needless to say, it's a good thing I walked everywhere in Cheltenham because those probably are not the best for one to be eating on a daily basis.

When I left, I contemplated purchasing all I could afford before I took off to London to return home. I skipped it because I thought I have gotta be able to find these wonderful things from someone online in the US. I've been looking for nearly 12 years now and no such luck.

I do have Asperger's, and I've had help with it, but I was only diagnosed when I was 22-23 (26 now) because my sister's husband has 'traditional' autism, and that got us thinking.

I just wish anyone would've noticed when I was still in school or highschool. Could've saved me a lot of trouble.

Yeah, having Hitler on top of that list is really helpful
(thanks for the compliment, don't know if I can live up to your expectations though )

Being 'bright' only goes so far - put me in a situation where I don't know what to expect, combine that with a lot of changes and I'm useless.

it is, but still worth doing at least once, no?

i don't quite mean it exactly as the stereotypical trophy wife thing either, falling in love is way too easy, i more meant it along the lines of aiming for the top and working your way down.

TDM - Trophies are for short stints. If I had married one of the "trophies" that I brought home to my sensible (and therefore unimpressed) parents, I'd be pretty miserable. I got married late in life so that I could get that trophy shit over with first. It was fun and worth it at the time, but I'm glad I waited until I was more mature (relatively speaking at least) before tying the knot.

If you get a trophy, enjoy and display it, be proud of it, but just for a short while - don't keep it long enough to make people make fun of you for still having a useless, dusty old trophy sitting around.

WotL - what are some things you personally find helpful in terms of helping people with Asperger's? I know I can read up on it, but sometimes, it makes more meaning coming from someone who actually benefits from it. If it's something you'd rather not discuss, I can respect that too.

Don't forget to live before you die.
