Scariest game?
I'm playing through F.E.A.R. at the moment and it is a bit creepy. I had to stop playing for the night because it creeps me out too much.
I used to have the same problem with parts of Half Life 1 and most of Ravenholm in HL2. What other games are supposed to be scary? There is no sig. |

doom 3 is ok on that aspect, play it in a dark room, adjust the brightness with the little black square, grey square thing, yeah it worked for me
![]() woulda been a lot better if there was some kind of map though lol I hate everyone, so you don't have to. |

Doom 3 wasn't really scary for me. I never played through the whole game though. Got bored with it pretty dang quick(less than 2 hours of gameplay).

yeah it can be hard to get in since (for me anyway) most of the game consists of being lost, since there's no map, and a lot of the things that are supposed to be scary are scripted only, i know what you mean with F.E.A.R. the AI players were so fucking good, it freaked me out too.

Either you you ever play the expansion pack to F.E.A.R. (extraction point I believe). Was it any good? I was looking at it when it first came out but never got around to buying it.
F.E.A.R. was one of the best I've played in a long time... |

So far I've only "jumped" a few times while playing. A couple of times the lights went out and I just started shooting randomly(in the game).
Alma and Fettel creep me out pretty good sometimes with the random appearances. I like the AI in the game. Makes it more interesting and it won't play out the same way twice if you decide to re-play the level. I haven't played the expansions to the game. I just got F.E.A.R. yesterday. The demo that came with my sound card got me interested in the game. F.E.A.R. 2 will be out February 2009. At least that's what the site says. There is no sig. |

There's two expansion packs(Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate). I've read that the expansions aren't canon.

not sure, not really into the horror type genre, AITD 5 was ok, but the controls will make you cry, playable though, to be honest, controls aside not all that bad, probably supposed to be scary, but it's not, to me at least.
this month for gaming on PC is one of those "god, i wish it wasn't still nearly a whole month till xx game comes out" months, it's better than lately though, we've seen nothing but shit for PC come out for nearly 2 or 3 months and it's finally hopefully starting to end. I'm surprised no one mentioned any of the Silent Hill games. Even though the recent ones are garbage they all had freaky atmospheres.
"It is, in the end, whatever the Hell I want it to be, And when I'm through with it, it's gonna blow a hole, This wide, straight through the worlds own idea of itself. They're throwing bottles at your house. Come on, lets go break their arms." |

The Suffering was released for free download some days ago, it can pretty scary when these flashbacks appear out of nothing.

I got really scared from playing Silent Hill 2. Depressing atmosphere and a lot of scary sounds in that one.

I liked Silent Hill 4's sound effects on pause. Scared the crap out of me the first time I heard it. (It was 2am and I was taking a piss and heard some baby-like cry/scream in my bedroom.) Other than that, I agree with TDM ^

silent hill homecoming was alright though.
sort of a diversion from the standard what you expect in a silent hill game, enjoyable still though. triangle head being only there to scare you cause you think you'll have to fight him soon was a bad move imo though. I hate everyone, so you don't have to. |

I can't touch Need For Speed: ProStreet because the suckiness of the game scares me
Oh, wait... Left 4 Dead is a pretty scary game...Not necessarily scary since a game is only a game, but it's pretty creepy and will get jumpy if you get too relaxed...It "plays" less like a game and more like a movie, which is kinda cool... "I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors "Syphilis does not stay in Vegas. meh, left 4 dead was awesome, untill i beat all 4 *cough* extremely short *cough* 5 mission campaigns and got bored with the general laziness coupled with non linear levels and uninstalled it.
that and there's what? 5 weapons you can get not counting throwable/one time use crap? I hate everyone, so you don't have to. |

its supposed to be fun in multiplayer so if you only play it once with bots, yea, then it is pretty short.

nah i got probably 2 or 3 runs of each campaign before it felt half assed, mind you that's only about an hour each campaign.
main issue was the lack of content, to be honest though, there's always bottlenecks that are never going to be in the same exact places, the big fights are always going to be scripted to be in the same place (tank and end campaign stuff reffered to as "big", since the AI is shit and just swarms massive numbers to make itself seem difficult mainly), there's never going to be more than a handfull of weapons or a lot going on you haven't experienced to a point it seems new still. i'm not saying i don't like the concept, hell the concept is awesome, a game that adjusts the AI to how well you're doing and is supposed to squeeze all the replay factor out of the same levels as possible, it's just a bad execution, bottlenecks because of non linear levels and the big things to watch out for always being in the same point/progession kind of kill the idea they were going for is all, with a decent expansion or some serious modding it could have a huge increase in replay value. oh and, there's less than 10+ non melee/thrown weapons, how lame is that, all else aside. I hate everyone, so you don't have to. |

I'd have to say doom 3 at midnight blanket on the window (just in case) lights out. Surround sound up to max. That did a number on my brother. Wasn't all that scary though I think I giggled more at the "scary" part's then anything. I especially enjoyed killing things...

I have to say Silent Hill has made some of the scariest sounds I've ever encountered. Doom 3 is pretty close too.
I think the most scariest game I've ever played though is FEAR. For me. The scenes and lights flickering, just the atmosphere is crazy and keeps me on the edge of my seat. |

I've played quite a few horror games over the years, and I have to say it's a toss up between the Resident Evil 1 remake for Gamecube, Silent Hill 2 - 4, and Fatal Frame 2. Resident Evil 3 isn't too shabby on the scare factor either.
Quote:
Resident Evil 5 is a much bigger game than L4D. Takes about 10 hours to beat your first time. More levels. More weapons. More modes. More content. Many things to come back for and unlock. I got a good 60 hours of total game play on RE5 before I moved on. Left 4 Dead focuses on making just the gameplay experience itself and the fact it technically changes everytime you play the crux of the game. No messing around with unlockables and upgrades or some kind of currency/experience point system. Just go. Fewer extremely well-designed gameplay elements instead of the standard amount of passable ones. L4D came out November 08. Resident Evil 5 came out March 09. I'm a huge RE fan who has been eating up everything RE since the original PS1 RE1. RE5 lasted me about a month. (including the Versus DLC) Even today, I'm still playing Left 4 Dead. Versus Mode in L4D is one of the most addictive and ingenious things to play ever. RE5 isn't bad, but it doesn't do much to make me keep playing after everything is finished and unlocked. I love L4D cause it makes me want to play the game for the game. And nothing else. No fancy bs dangling in front of me to distract me from noticing when a game isn't really that great. Just shut up and play. It's awesome. If you really gave up on L4D already, I take it you barely gave Versus a try. It's the reason to play. And the only laziness on Valve's part is with the 360 version, where there are many issues and glitches still present. Main concern: Powershots are still in the 360 version. ![]() |

What about Aliens vs. Predator 2 ?
Its one of the scariest games ive ever player. Playing as a Marine, frantically throwing flares into the darkness because you can hear the skittering of face-huggers coming from everywhere. Sick ! |

Doom 3 was quite scary, although you expected all the time that some big scary monster jumps in front of you (or scratches your back)
