Winampheaven's Google cached 2.x page lists minibrowser fixes in 2.78.

It still seems impossible to figure out which version actually starts the minibrowser though. I remember that it was a big deal when it happened.

I tried searching the forums - but the earliest entry was from late April 2000, so I guess the MB is at least older than these forums (2.62 or earlier)

first mention api-wise is from 2.05 according to wa_ipc.h and the IPC_MBOPEN api.

as for me, somewhere around 2.5e though i'd been shown a version somewhere around 1.6 from what i remember.

What's new in Winamp 2.10:
[...]
* Winamp Browser

Is that it?

Because it was cool, or because it opened up the player to a bunch of funky attacks? That feature has always been a mixed blessing.

The no_more_browser plugin was the blessing

haha, and here I thought I was the only one who hated the browser...

Kinda makes me wonder... how many people use winamp JUST for music, like me (disable all the video and ish)

I never used the MB
I also didn't use the entire ML until my wife got an iPod (never even had it installed until about maybe two years ago)

I use it for audio only. Didn't even install half of the plugins.

Thanks for the research. I was curious not because I liked the minibrowser, just because I remember that it was a big thing when it was new. I picked up winamp just for the purpose of having a better player for the napster songs I had, and napster was just becoming big.

2.10 must have been what I used at the very earliest release, since I remember the Winamp folder had the infamous "llama" sound file in it...

"I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors
