Low bitrate VBR/ABR LAME

What are the best settings for this? I've heard ABR sounds better at low bitrates than VBR. Is this true? Are there any ABR presets for LAME? If so, what whould be the command line?

I use --alt-preset 160 to give an average bitrate of 160kbps. It's my preferred compromise between quality and filesize.

There's no need to tell me when I'm right;
I operate on that principle exclusively and with absolute certainty

the -R3mix is used by most people. It averages on around 192. I use 320kbps CBR though.

Are you talking low bitrates as in less than 128?

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

I'm talking about low bitrates. Around 128kbps or maybe even lower to get small files for movies or for music which isn't worth a high bitrate .
I'll try alt-preset 128 (I never used it because i thought it was constant bitrate).

Thanx

I use "r3mix" for good music and "alt-preset standard" for even better music

If you're interest in trying a new format you can squeeze even better quality into a smaller file with .MPC
