auto tag
I have spent hours auto tagging my songs. I was just wondering if it is possible to save or transfer that info to the songs on my hard drive? or I will have to do it all over again on my other laptop.
Thanks Den |

are you saying that your files don't have tags and that you didn't autotag the files, only the ML?
normally, both are done at the same time. PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

Yes it seems it has auto tagged in the music library but not the actual songs on my hard drive.
I am new to this so sorry if I seem vague, can I auto tag the songs my hard drive in winamp? I did try mp3tag but it did not seem to work either. Den |

ok, first what kind of files are these? mp3? all of them?
second, tags exist in files. the ML is merely a DB and it may or may not represent the info it finds in the tags. normally, the default setup for winamp is that whatever you do in the ML, updates the files tags as well. I am pretty sure you would have had to have opted out of that arrangement. mp3tag will know nothing about whats in your winamp DB. it will only know whats in the tags. did you check the files with mp3tag to see if the tags and ML actually do disagree? there is no way, unfortunately, to get winamp to apply the current ML info to the file tags as a batch operation. u would either have to do it manually, file by file, OR turn back on ML updating of file tags, and re-autotag them all. Thanks for your help, I should have checked first, just imported my music onto a new laptop and saw that the songs were tagged.
Thanks again Den |

np. one thing to be aware of, for reasons I find suspect, winamp does NOT save ratings to tags by default. you have to specifically turn that on, then "re-rate" everything to get that info into the tag. this only matters if you rate things.

Software for raw metadata?
I didn't realise media library can add tags & that the tags in the file may also be changed...
Is there any way to compare the two? Software that can look at the raw metadata? Thanks but :)
Hi, I do understand the difference between the library db & the audio file metadata. I just wondered if there was an automatic way to compare them?

well, depends what you mean... "automatic way to compare them" is vague.
