Volume Equalization

Sorry I have so many questions, but I am on a steep learning curve.

Does Winamp have any means (including plugins) of equalizing volumes when mp3 files are running in a playlist that contain some files of widely different volumes. Since I don't know the answer to this, I am forced to use some compression settings on my mixer, if I walk away from winamp during a show. I could get better fidelity if Winamp had some sort of volume equalizer, I think. I am not a big fan of using compression.

don't use compression or the limiter.

instead, just run all your files thru the replaygain analyzer (right click in the ML) and enable it for playback (in the prefs).

OK thanks Mr. S. I took some of my playlists and right clicked the entire tracks and sent them all through the gain analyzer. Have not tested the results but will do so in the morning. I was surprised to see everything run through as 0db change. Does that mean nothing was changed? I hope that is not what it means as there are a few tracks way too soft.

Can I also run an entire local library of 3,000 songs through this and if so does it carry through to when the files are placed in various playlists?

And the ones I already ran through from the playlists, does this data travel from playlist to playlist and also back to the local library?

the best thing to do is make sure that the RG value is being stored in the files tags as well as the ML. use mp3tag to see if it is.

also make sure you enabled it for playback in prefs. and also tell prefs to uncheck the box for needing to ask b4 writing RG values.

just do all the files in your ML at once, you don't have to do playlists at all (unless for some reason those files aren't in the ML). the values for any given file should be seen when you do Alt+3

Replay Gain is good...

I use this a lot for broadcasting, but not for listening directly; it may be subjective but shoutcast sounds better with rp to me

OK Mr. Sinatra! Thanks so much !! Got all working now and my volume problems are solved! What a magnificent product Winamp is and such great support here on the forum!

My thanks also go out to Aminifu. YOur articles in the link are very helpful. I saved them to my Winamp file ad a great reference.

It is so good not to have to be constantly riding the channel volume on my mixer.
