Our TCP/IP settings are the same; everything is the same, same OS as well. Do you think it's to do with my modem? It's called a Smart Link 56K. Is it possible to download software modems off the internet? Or would I be better off simply buying a harware one?
Ok, so here's the deal: A modem is a physical board with circuits on it, used to MODulaate and DEModulate signals over a wire.

That having been said, there is such a thing as a hardware modem and a software modem:

A hardware modem is significantly more expensive than a software modem, because much more of the work in MODulating and DEModulating the signal is done by the modem itself, as opposed to a software modem which uses the rest of the computer for much of it's work. Hardware modems tend to work better than software modems, and put less strain on the PC. They also work with Linux, not that you'd necessarily care.

You should check and see if your computer will stay connected on your sister's phone jack, and if so, it's probably the wiring in the wall. Otherwise, it's probably your modem, and you should replace your modem with a better one.

Starcraft. Duh. It's hard to even explain why. It's like comparing bread with cake.

That having been said, they're all very good.

what color do you like better:

Red, green, blue, or orange?

What's better: Half life, Doom3, Counterstrike, system shock 2, or fallout (series)?

System Shock 2. That game fucking rocks. Fallout is a close second, though.

Because you don't value knowledge high enough - or - you find studying difficult, though not necessarily because you're stupid. I think today's public schools are shitty, particularly in the US.

That's not a question, per se, but I'll indulge you. I chose "xzxzzx" for several reasons:
  1. On a qwerty keyboard (which I use the most), the two letters are right next to each other.
  2. It is simple to remember, if you break it down into pieces - "xz", "xz", "zx".
  3. It is nearly symmetrical in two ways - "xz", "xz", "zx", and "xzx", "zzx".
  4. It is unique. Try a google search on "xzxzzx".
  5. It is quick to type. (related to, but not the same as #1)

Another reason, that I found later, is that it's pronounceable, though only three people, to my knowledge, (not including me), know how to pronounce it correctly. One of them found out the day before yesterday, actually.

The xz parts could easily be pronounced as exit, zx as sex, the whole name could thus be pronounced as exit exit sex. And now my question: Am I right?

Oh, and another thing about my name is the third near-symmetry:

x
zx
zzx

My foresight continues to amaze me! (Figure that one out...)

[edit]To explain further, here's the breakdown of my name's pronounciation:

x-zx-zzx:
ks-zz-zzks
the first "s" sound usually gets swallowed, and some vowels inserted, so it comes out:

kuh-ziz-zzicks

I should probably make a recording to make it perfectly clear, but in my infinite wisdom (and laziness), that will have to wait for another day.[/edit]

There you have it. "ex-zet" could easily become "exit", and the d in "zed-ex" could be swallowed.

But, ex-zed-ex-zed-zed-ex, ironically in choosing a simple-to-type, easy-to-remember alias, you have brought about confusion as to how it is pronounced. Perhaps oppopo would have been better, as it has vowels in it, and there isn't the international misunderstanding as to how to pronounce the letter "z." (Though I think xzxzzx looks cooler than oppopo).

It was never meant to be pronounced, actually. However, simply spelling out the letters is an acceptable pronunciation. "kuh-ziz-zzicks" (much shorter to say than to type) is the pronunciation if you don't want to spell it out, though.

[edit]I've also decided that it's acceptable to suppress the initial "k":

"eh-ziz-zzicks"

However, the canonical pronunciation remains "kuh-ziz-zzicks".

It depends - in most cases, I enjoy a bath more, as it's more relaxing. I'm a bit tall for the tub, though.

If I just want to get clean, though, I enjoy a shower more.
