BOINC@forums.winamp.com

I know there is an existing SETI thread but this is BOINC!

I have updated the SETI/BOINC FAQ I started ages ago and forgot about!

You can go visit it here: http://www.philybaby.co.uk/index.php?function=seti

If there's something you think I've missed just say and I'll add it. All other comments are most welcome too.

I am hoping that people will convert over to using the BOINC client instead of the original SETI client.

There is a new team page that is currently looking a bit bleak: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/team...p?teamid=31188

You can join it now easily: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/team...m.php?id=31188

or read the FAQ: http://www.philybaby.co.uk/index.php...=seti#starting

New members are most welcome, and existing member that aren't currently crunching - Well now there's a perfect opertunity to start a new lease of life and get with BOINC!

I'm still a member of the team with 742 work units under my belt. I just downloaded BOINC and have started SETI again. Any other BOINC projects you want to recommend?

Unfortunatly cross project teams are not currently supported, which I feel is one of the biggest setbacks that needs to be resolved with BOINC. There should be a standardised way of distributing credit between projects, but until that time we can only create separate *@forums.winamp.com teams separatly. If someone wants to start such a team feel free to do so, however SETI seems to be the only mature project so far.

I think I may have jumped the gun with that remark. Boincstats.com has a BOINC combined stats page for teams and individuals. The link to our team is: http://www.boincstats.com/stats/boin...ums.winamp.com

A link to the overall stats for the new BOINC team alone are here
and the link to individuals in that team are here.

I have no idea how these are worked out. But hey, it's cool .

I joined, yay! Got a couple of machines crunching... And the Boinc client isn't too distressing, even though command line is best....

I've got my new 3200+ and my memory running at 420MHz now so a WU has gone from taking 4-5 hrs to taking about 2-2.5 .

It's about time I had a decent quick PC. So be warned, I'm comming to get ya!

I may try install it on my machine at work too.

I'm getting through two every hour and a half on my P4 Prescott 3ghz (we do love multi-core processors)...

the duron 800 is taking significantly longer though - more in the region of seven hours!

MattFury, it's a program that runs in the background and crunches numbers for SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). The numbers you're crunching are frequencies from outer space. If anything looks like it might be an artificial signal (not naturally occurring), it must mean there are aliens out there sending it.

As for the graphics, yeah... the graphics are a lot cooler now. I love how it's 3D.

Excitingness,

I'm probably about two years behind everyone else, but today I've figured out how to use the Boinc Manager to connect to other computers on my network and remotely administer their boinc settings, check statueses and that sort of thing. Must see now if I can get it running on Windows CE 2004SE (o;

Now I live on my own it's more diffucult to justify the cost of 24/7 crunching when I have to pay the full bill myself. Which is why I stopped a while ago.

I watched Contact again a couple of days ago. I'll be using my Directv dish hooked to my headphones like the fat bitch on the RV.

I use my computer as central heating... Well, it's either that or going out and gathering wood to burn.....! (it also runs webservers and other goodness, so has to stay on anyway....)

Is anybody other than myself Rocker and c2R still crunching numbers for Boinc?

I finally got around to joining the team, had to give up on seti last time since my old router blocked the Boinc client, but the newer one plus the new computer are good friends so I've started crunching again.
