Hack A Coke Machine

Not too long ago I was watching the Screen Savers on TechTV (umm.. g4techtv I guess) and I saw the sweetest segment.

How to hack coke vending machines!

Now i'm told that in older machines it is possible to actually get free cokes, but mostly it's just a fun trick.

Anyway, see for yourself.

The first link is to the actual forum the information originated from (it's a german forum I think).

The second link is to the Screen Savers page about this (also includes the link)

Now, this actually works (in the U.S. only apparently), they showed the two Kevin's on the show doing it - so go out their and hack them for yourself

Oh and be sure to post here if it works on any machine near you

Hack Coke Machines (Forum Thread)

The Screen Savers Page (Scroll Down A Bit)

[Hope this doesn't piss off any mods ]

You can't actually "hack" the machine, but basically to get access to the coke machine's OS.

Which is pretty sweet!

The new generation Pepsi machines are quite high tech. I bet there's something like this for them too.

I kinda think it's a design flaw really.. but then again, you can't really do any damage.

I wish it worked here in Canada.. the machines are essentially the same, but i've tried on a few machines and it doesn't work. Maybe it's just the machines - but I have a feeling it's totally different.

How is accessing what is essentially a service menu for the machine 'hacking', most, if not all, vending machines have service menus on them to allow you to configure the machine.

The first coffee vending machines we had at work about 10 years ago had a similar button press set up on them, if you knew the combinations you could get free vend and stuff from it, luckily I knew the guy who installed them so it was free caffine all the way for me.

That forum is Dutch by the way.

This is VERY interesting. About only working in the US, this is what I read on the Dutch forum:

Quote:
It says something like:

Quote:
I've tried it too now. The code did work but besides the ordinary things (Sale, cash etc.), I got C01 to C10 options. They didn't do anything but showing some numbers. When I started messing around with them the whole machine crashed, only showing CJ07 or something like that. Then I walked away...

Allways the same..*DuH* We used to do Fruitys (Fruit Machines) with eletronic lighter clickers...word got out - machine manufacturers added a capacitor and end of that...big gobs

After you ckicked the lighter thing near the coin slot (On the electronic slots) it would clock up credits, you then learnt the reel patterns, get the jackpots and pocket the tokens (They were for later). clock up more credits and proceed to empty machine (Naughty I know but hey we were street kids - you gotta live) -- finally you generally got chased so in coomes the tokens.

If you got two and super glued em togther they were near on a perfect gimmick weight and size wise to the then new 1 pound sterling coin.
We would then jump the metro to an outlying more quiet station and proceed to feed the machine but only getting a child fare. Cost 5p change 95p.

Could make 50-100+ quid a day like that but word got out manufactires changed the machine slightly and end of game.

Shitty part of life but it kept us alive - some of us anyway...

tryed the 4231 "hack" today.. doesnt allow you to DO anything, just view info on the machine. to get to the good stuff, you need access to the control panel, which is behind the machines door...

I'm sure you could convince somebody to try to port NetBSD to a coke machine OS

Find a decent emulator and run Winamp that way.

Nice scheme there smeggle.
The way we made money up here was with buses. After you'd pay your fair, you could get a transfer card that was good for 2 hours. We would take a peice of steel wool and by scratching it just right, you could make the card have infinite transfer time. Sell those babies for anywere from $50-$100. As far as I know you can still do that with the cards too, but we stopped doing it a while ago. We were also the only people who knew the right way to scratch the cards, so we basically owned the market.
