Unhappy Ipod database corrupted.

Hi

I was putting some audiobooks on my Ipod classic 160 Gb this morning and when I closed Winamp to disconnect it a message came up saying that the Ipod was too full for the database and that I would need to remove some songs and it would be fine.

Because Winamp was closed I used the windows remove hardware box to disconnect the Ipod. Now it won't show up on my computer or in Winamp when I connect it and it has a big red x with the link .

I followed that link but it doesn't go into to disk mode. It was already in disk mode when the problem occured if that makes any difference. Resetting it does nothing as does Itunes which I loaded onto my work computer to see if it would be recognised.

Any ideas? I really don't want to have to take it to the rip-off Apple store to get it fixed.

It sounds like you might have overwritten the drive file system. I haven't used iTunes in a looong time, but there was a function to initialize the drive as a Windows drive. You might take a look. Also, reloading the firmware might also solve the problem.

Yeah I figured that may have happened.

Would I still be covered under Apple's warranty? The iPod is only 3 months old.

Thing is the iPod doesn't show up in windows as a drive. How would I even re-do the firmware?

With iTunes. Back when I got mine, the iPod came setup for a MAC and wouldn't be recognized by Windows. I had to use iTunes to make it look like a disc by Windows.
