Winamp iPhone version is missing !!!
Hi guys.
I use winamp all the time. It is really great app. I love it. Also I am an iPhone developer. I've searched iPhone winamp version from App Store. But I've found no result. I think iPhone winamp version is missing for iPhone users and me. Is winamp iPhone version live anywhere ? If so, please give me directly link. Also If iPhone winamp version doesn't exist, I am ready to develop it as live. I can do it with windows 11 skin and winamp default skin. I have one problem to do it. This is application signing fee and spread world wide. If anybody is ready to support me, I can do it in three months. I can promise iPhone winamp version that I will develop is more usable, good user interface and having plug-ins. If you are interested in for my idea, please post the reply. Thanks guys. Cheers! The iPhone does not run Windows, so no there is no version and never will be. (Besides, Apple wouldn't allow it since it "replicates core functionality" anyways)

I don't mean Windows Version on iPhone. I can develop it on the iPhone SDK. Now iPhone SDK 3.2 is available for iPhone developers. It supports iPad applications.
So I can develop winamp version for iPhone and iPad. |

Winamp isn't open source, nor does AOL just let anybody work on it.

I think the guy said he wants to license it if he's assured of support for it (by the user base, I think). Me, I'd love to see a Droid version.

Thanks. Actually I am mobile developer for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
Android license is free. So, I haven't any problem to make it as live. The main point is how to spread it world wide and how to license it. Also big problem is "Winamp is not open source". |

irrespective of the open source nature of Winamp, if the licensing agreement was allowed then you'd be starting to code from scratch.
you'd be better off making a general media player for those formats and then provide Winamp style skin loading as that's all that most people would relate things too. this really is no more different than all of the 'we want a true Winamp for linux requests'. what makes Winamp what it is - it's skins & plugin's & if an alternative codebase was able to provide support of those then you'd have a Winamp of your own. too much is being placed on the name & code that is irrelevant when you have to look at a completely different OS/platform. but that's just my take on things. -daz |

That makes sense, daz -- it is more of a "look and feel" kind of thing based on the interface and features. For distribution, a website is all that's needed, or the Droid Marketplace (for that particular platform) if it's not too complicated to get listed there.
If it's too much like Winamp, AOL may be uncomfortable with it, so it's a good idea to find out what they would be willing to permit. Still, a basic player on any platform generally uses the OS features, so it's the extras that give a player its personality. I'll look forward to what you come up with, JamesWinamp! (BTW, daz, I'm a huge fan of your plugins -- thanks for making 'em!) |

Thanks guys.
I'll do it for android and iPad. But I won't use the winamp any skin and source. It will be just Media Player with Lyrics Plugging. If you are interested in my idea and can support its market, please post the reply. I do my best ![]() |

iPhone/iPad desperately needs a media player with a Media Library manager like Winamp. Perfect for a car audio system.

Thanks for reply.
Project arrangement is in process: system environment, coding rule, research for the components. Project is being slow right now. Because I am doing it on part time. Actually I am really glad to share (its license, name, profit and future fame ...etc) with anyone who is trusted, stable and can do teamwork. I mean the support can be any better idea to live it, creating project team and some costs (license agreement for iPhone and iPad and other cost). First version will be Android's version. Android license is free. So, won't be any cost on this part. I guess second version will be iPhone and iPad's version. At this time, I need an investment and more support. I am ready to make a teamwork. If you are interested in my idea, please send me private message. Thanks. |

That sounds great! I'm not experienced enough to help with that stuff, though. I'm guessing it would be useful to post a note on the specific manufacturer support forums -- I think they'd probably have a developer support section where experienced coders would visit.

I would totally drool being able to use the Media Library with iPad in my car. But the codec format restrictions from Apple suck. Cydia would be an alternative option. Also don't think Apple would approve this app, otherwise we'd already see VLC in the App Store.
Touch screen audio manager like winamp would be ideal for car audio. |
